Israel debe arrepentirse
1-4 Pueblo de Israel,
escuchen este triste canto
que entono por lo que va a suceder.
Pueblo de Israel,
nuestro Dios les advierte:
«Ya ustedes pueden darse por muertos.
Quedarán tendidos en el suelo,
y no volverán a levantarse;
serán como una jovencita muerta
que no volverá a la vida.
»No les irá bien en la guerra.
Si de una ciudad salen mil soldados,
solo cien volverán con vida;
si de un pueblo salen cien soldados,
solo diez volverán con vida.
»Si quieren seguir viviendo,
vuelvan a obedecerme.
5 No vayan al santuario de Betel,
porque pronto será destruido;
tampoco vayan al santuario de Beerseba
ni pasen por el de Guilgal,
porque todos sus habitantes
serán llevados presos a otro país.
6 »Si quieren seguir viviendo,
vuelvan a obedecerme.
Si no lo hacen,
yo destruiré al reino de Israel;
¡le prenderé fuego al santuario de Betel,
y nadie será capaz de apagarlo!
7 »Ustedes no han tratado con justicia
a los que son maltratados,
ni han respetado sus derechos;
¡han convertido en malo lo que es bueno!
8-9 »Yo soy quien hizo
todas las estrellas del cielo;
yo soy quien convierte
la luz del día en oscuridad,
y la oscura noche en día;
yo soy quien manda a las nubes
que vengan y rieguen la tierra;
yo soy quien derriba murallas
y quien convierte grandes fortalezas
en un montón de ruinas;
¡yo soy el Dios todopoderoso!
10 »Ustedes desprecian
al que lucha por la justicia
y al que dice la verdad;
11 ustedes humillan a los pobres
y les quitan el pan de la boca
al cobrarles altos impuestos.
Por eso no podrán disfrutar
de las lujosas casas que construyeron,
ni tampoco beberán el vino
de los hermosos viñedos que plantaron.
12 »Yo conozco todos sus pecados;
conozco sus muchas maldades.
Sé que los jueces aceptan dinero
para juzgar a favor de los malvados
y en contra de la gente inocente.
Por eso el juicio lo ganan los ricos
y lo pierden los pobres.
13 ¡Hay tanta maldad hoy en día
que los sabios prefieren callarse!
14-15 »Ustedes dicen estar seguros
de que yo vivo entre ustedes.
Si en verdad quieren que así sea,
dejen de hacer lo malo,
empiecen a hacer lo bueno
y traten a todos con justicia.
Puede ser que entonces
yo, el Dios todopoderoso,
viva entre ustedes y les dé vida.
Puede ser que entonces
yo, el Dios todopoderoso,
bendiga a los pocos de ustedes
que hayan quedado con vida».
El llanto de Israel
16-17 Nuestro Dios, el poderoso Dios de Israel, ha dicho:
«Cuando yo venga a castigarlos,
el llanto se oirá por todas partes.
Se llorará en las calles,
se llorará en los mercados,
se llorará en los viñedos,
se llorará en los campos,
¡y también en los velorios!
18 ¡Qué mal les va a ir a ustedes,
los que esperan con ansias
el día de mi llegada!
¡No saben lo que les espera!
¡No será un día de luz,
sino un día de terrible oscuridad!
19 Ese día sabrán lo que sienten
los que huyen de un león
y se encuentran con un oso.
Ese día sabrán lo que sienten
los que entran en su casa
y los muerde una serpiente
al apoyarse en la pared.
20 »En verdad, así será
el día de mi llegada:
¡no será un día de felicidad,
sino un día de terrible tristeza!
21 »¡Yo aborrezco sus fiestas religiosas!
¡No soporto sus cultos de adoración!
22 Ustedes se acercan a mí
trayendo toda clase de ofrendas,
pero yo no quiero ni mirarlas.
23 ¡Vayan a cantar a otra parte!
¡No quiero oír esa música de arpa!
24 Mejor traten con justicia a los demás
y sean justos como yo lo soy.
¡Que abunden sus buenas acciones
como abundan las aguas
de un río caudaloso!
25 »Pueblo de Israel,
durante los cuarenta años
que anduvieron por el desierto,
ustedes nunca me presentaron ofrendas.
26 En cambio, llevaban en hombros
la imagen de Sicut,
el dios que llaman rey,
y cargaban la imagen del dios Quiiún
que tenía la forma de una estrella.
27 Por eso haré que a ustedes
se los lleven presos a otro país
que está más allá de Siria.
Yo, el Dios todopoderoso,
les juro que así será».
1 Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel. 2 The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up. 3 For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
4 ¶ For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live: 5 But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought. 6 Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it , and there be none to quench it in Beth-el. 7 Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth, 8 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name: 9 That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress. 10 They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly. 11 Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them. 12 For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right . 13 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time. 14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. 15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
16 Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing. 17 And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD. 18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. 19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
21 ¶ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. 22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. 23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. 24 But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. 25 Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? 26 But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves. 27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.
