1 Por eso, mientras siga en pie la promesa de descansar con Dios, debemos tener cuidado. Sería una lástima que alguno de ustedes no pudiera recibir de Dios ese descanso. 2 Porque nosotros oímos la buena noticia, igual que aquellos israelitas que salieron de Egipto. Solo que a ellos no les sirvió de nada oírla, porque no creyeron en el mensaje. 3 Nosotros, en cambio, los que sí hemos creído en la buena noticia, disfrutaremos de la paz y de la tranquilidad que Dios nos ha prometido. Pero a los que no creyeron, Dios les dijo:
«Por eso, ya enojado decidí:
“No voy a permitirles
entrar en la tierra prometida,
donde los haré descansar.”»
Dios dijo esto, refiriéndose a su descanso cuando terminó de crear el mundo. 4 Porque en alguna parte de la Biblia se habla así del día sábado:
«En el séptimo día
Dios descansó de todo su trabajo.»
5 Y en cuanto a este punto, vuelve a decir:
«Ustedes jamás entrarán
en mi lugar de reposo.»
6 Los primeros en oír la buena noticia desobedecieron a Dios, y por eso no pudieron recibir su descanso. Pero la promesa de Dios sigue en pie, 7 porque él nos dio una nueva oportunidad, como lo dijo por medio de David en el pasaje de la Biblia, que ya mencionamos:
«Si hoy escuchan la voz de Dios,
no sean tan tercos.»
8 Si Josué hubiera podido hacer que los israelitas descansaran realmente en paz y tranquilidad, Dios no habría hablado de otra oportunidad. 9 Pero todavía esperamos el día en que nosotros, el pueblo de Dios, recibiremos el descanso que Dios nos ha prometido. 10 En ese día, el pueblo de Dios descansará por fin de su trabajo, así como Dios descansó del suyo. 11 Por eso, hagamos todo lo posible por obedecer a Dios, para que en ese día recibamos su descanso. No sigamos el ejemplo de los que no creyeron la buena noticia.
12 Cada palabra que Dios pronuncia tiene poder y tiene vida. La palabra de Dios es más cortante que una espada de dos filos, y penetra hasta lo más profundo de nuestro ser. Allí examina nuestros pensamientos y deseos, y deja en claro si son buenos o malos. 13 Nada de lo que Dios ha creado puede esconderse de él, pues Dios puede verlo todo con claridad, y ante él seremos responsables de todo lo que hemos hecho.
Jesús es el Jefe de sacerdotes
14 Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, y es nuestro gran Jefe de sacerdotes, que ha subido al cielo. Por eso debemos seguir confiando en él.
15 El diablo le puso a Jesús las mismas trampas que nos pone a nosotros para hacernos pecar, solo que Jesús nunca pecó. Por eso, él puede entender que nos resulta difícil obedecer a Dios. 16 Así que, cuando tengamos alguna necesidad, acerquémonos con confianza al trono de Dios. Él nos ayudará, porque es bueno y nos ama.
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it . 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
