Saludo
1-3 Queridos hermanos y hermanas de la iglesia de Dios en Corinto:
Reciban saludos míos, y de nuestro hermano Sóstenes.
Yo, Pablo, deseo de todo corazón que nuestro Padre Dios y el Señor Jesucristo les den mucho amor y paz.
Dios me eligió para ser apóstol de Jesucristo, y también los eligió a ustedes para que vivan unidos a él y formen parte de su pueblo elegido. Así estarán unidos a nosotros y a todos los que adoran y alaban a nuestro Señor Jesucristo en todo el mundo.
La oración de Pablo
4 Siempre le doy gracias a Dios por ustedes. Dios fue bueno y les dio a Jesucristo, 5 y además los ayudó a que comprendieran su mensaje y lo comunicaran mejor. 6 Ustedes creyeron totalmente en el mensaje de Jesucristo. 7 Por eso, mientras esperan que Jesucristo vuelva, no les faltará ninguna bendición de Dios. 8 De ese modo no dejarán de confiar en él y, cuando Jesús llegue, nadie los acusará de haber hecho algo malo. 9 Dios los eligió a ustedes para que compartan todo con su Hijo Jesucristo, nuestro Señor, y él siempre cumple su palabra.
¡Vivamos unidos!
10-11 Hermanos míos, yo les ruego, de parte de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que se pongan todos de acuerdo y que no haya divisiones entre ustedes. Al contrario, vivan unidos y traten de ponerse de acuerdo en lo que piensan.
Algunos de la familia de Cloe me dijeron que hay asuntos por los que ustedes están discutiendo mucho. 12 Mientras que algunos dicen: «Yo soy seguidor de Pablo», otros dicen: «Yo no, yo soy seguidor de Apolo.» Y hay otros que responden: «Pues yo soy seguidor de Pedro», y aun otros dicen: «Yo sigo a Cristo.» 13 ¡Pero no hay tal cosa como un Cristo dividido! Además, no fui yo el que murió en la cruz para salvarlos a ustedes. Ni fueron ustedes bautizados en mi nombre. Así que no tienen por qué formar un grupo de seguidores míos. 14-16 Gracias a Dios, solo bauticé a Crispo, a Gayo y a la familia de Estéfanas. No recuerdo haber bautizado a nadie más. En todo caso, nadie puede decir que fue bautizado en mi nombre. 17 Y es que Cristo no me mandó a bautizar, sino a anunciar la buena noticia. Y no me mandó a anunciarla con palabras elegantes. Si yo hago que la gente se fije más en mí que en Cristo, su muerte en la cruz no servirá de nada.
¡Cristo es poderoso!
18 Hay quienes piensan que hablar de la muerte de Cristo en la cruz es una tontería. Pero los que así piensan no se salvarán, pues viven haciendo el mal. Sin embargo, para los que sí van a salvarse, es decir, para nosotros, ese mensaje tiene el poder de Dios. 19 En la Biblia Dios dice:
«¡Dejaré confundidos a los que creen que saben mucho!»
20 Dios ha demostrado que la gente de este mundo es tonta, pues cree saberlo todo. En realidad, no hay tal cosa como sabios, o expertos en la Biblia, o gente que cree tener todas las respuestas. 21 Dios es tan sabio que no permitió que la gente de este mundo lo conociera mediante el conocimiento humano. En lugar de eso, decidió salvar a los que creyeran en el mensaje que anunciamos, aun cuando este mensaje parezca una tontería.
22 Para creer en el mensaje que anunciamos, los judíos quieren ver milagros y los griegos quieren oír un mensaje que suene razonable e inteligente. 23 Pero nosotros anunciamos que Jesús es el Mesías, ¡y que murió en la cruz! Para la mayoría de los judíos, esto es un insulto; y para los que no son judíos, es una tontería. 24 En cambio, para los que fueron elegidos por Dios, sean judíos o no, Dios ha manifestado su poder y su sabiduría en la muerte del Mesías que él envió. 25 Así que, lo que parece una tontería de Dios, es mucho más sabio que la sabiduría de este mundo. Podría pensarse que Dios es débil, pero en realidad es más fuerte que cualquiera.
26 Recuerden lo que ustedes eran cuando Dios los eligió. Según la gente, muy pocos de ustedes eran sabios, y muy pocos de ustedes ocupaban puestos de poder o pertenecían a familias importantes. 27-28 Y aunque la gente de este mundo piensa que ustedes son tontos y no tienen importancia, Dios los eligió, para que los que se creen sabios entiendan que no saben nada. Dios eligió a los que, desde el punto de vista humano, son débiles, despreciables y de poca importancia, para que los que se creen muy importantes se den cuenta de que en realidad no lo son. Así, Dios ha demostrado que, en realidad, esa gente no vale nada. 29 Por eso, ante Dios, nadie tiene de qué sentirse orgulloso. 30 Dios los ha unido a ustedes con Cristo, y gracias a esa unión ahora ustedes son sabios. Dios los ha aceptado como parte de su pueblo, y han recibido la vida eterna. 31 Por lo tanto, como dice la Biblia, si alguien quiere sentirse orgulloso de algo, que se sienta orgulloso de Jesucristo, el Señor.

4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called : 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea , and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
