Ester ofrece otro banquete
1 El rey Asuero y Amán fueron al banquete que les ofrecía la reina Ester. 2 Mientras bebían vino, el rey le volvió a preguntar a Ester:
—¿Dime qué deseas, reina Ester? Hasta la mitad de mi reino te daría, si me lo pidieras.
3 Ester le respondió:
—Si Su Majestad en verdad me ama, y si le parece bien, le pido que salve mi vida y la de mi pueblo. 4 Se ha puesto precio a nuestra vida, y se nos quiere destruir. Si hubiéramos sido vendidos como esclavos y esclavas, yo me callaría, y no molestaría a Su Majestad por algo sin importancia.
5 El rey Asuero le preguntó:
—¿Y quién se atrevió a hacer esto? ¿Dónde está?
6 Ester, señalando a Amán, le respondió:
—¡Nuestro enemigo es este malvado!
Al oír esto, Amán se quedó paralizado de miedo. 7 El rey Asuero se levantó de la mesa muy enojado, y salió al jardín para calmarse. Cuando Amán se dio cuenta de que el rey estaba decidido a matarlo, se quedó en la sala para rogarle a la reina que lo salvara.
Amán muere en la horca
8-9 Cuando el rey regresó del jardín y entró a la sala, vio que Amán estaba demasiado cerca de Ester. Entonces el rey exclamó:
—¡Solo eso me faltaba! ¡Que le faltes al respeto a mi esposa ante mis ojos, y en mi propia casa!
Cuando los guardias oyeron los gritos del rey, entraron y le cubrieron la cara a Amán. Uno de los guardias, llamado Harboná, dijo:
—En la casa de Amán hay una horca de veintidós metros de alto. Él la preparó para Mardoqueo, el judío que le salvó la vida a Su Majestad.
10 Entonces el rey ordenó:
—¡Cuélguenlo allí!
Los guardias colgaron a Amán en la horca que él había preparado para Mardoqueo, y así el rey se tranquilizó.
1 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen. 2 And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom. 3 Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request: 4 For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king’s damage.
5 ¶ Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so? 6 And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
7 ¶ And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. 8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was . Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face. 9 And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon. 10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king’s wrath pacified.
