Josías celebra la Pascua
(2 R 23.21-26)1 El día catorce del mes de Abib, Josías ordenó dar inicio a la celebración de la Pascua en Jerusalén, sacrificando el cordero de la fiesta. 2 A los sacerdotes los organizó de acuerdo a sus tareas, y los animó para que hicieran bien su trabajo en el templo de Dios. 3 A los ayudantes de los sacerdotes que se dedicaban a la enseñanza de la ley de Dios, les ordenó lo siguiente:
«Ya no es necesario que transporten de un lugar a otro el cofre del pacto de Dios. Pónganlo en el templo que el rey Salomón construyó. De ahora en adelante trabajarán en el templo, al servicio de su Dios y su pueblo Israel.
4 »Sigan las instrucciones que el rey David y su hijo Salomón nos dieron, y organícense de acuerdo a sus familias y a sus turnos de trabajo. 5 Así, un grupo de ayudantes de cada familia tendrá su oportunidad de servir en el templo. Cada grupo representará a las demás familias israelitas. 6 Cumplan con la ceremonia de preparación y sacrifiquen el cordero de la Pascua, para que así sus compatriotas tengan todo lo necesario para celebrar la fiesta, tal y como Dios lo ordenó por medio de Moisés».
7 Entonces Josías les dio a todos los que estaban allí treinta mil animales de su propio ganado, para que celebraran la Pascua. Entre los animales iban corderos y cabritos, además de otros tres mil novillos que también ofreció.
8 Al ver esto, los asistentes del rey también regalaron animales, para que el pueblo, los sacerdotes y sus ayudantes celebraran la Pascua.
Además, Hilquías, Zacarías y Jehiel, que eran los asistentes del rey y estaban a cargo del templo de Dios, les dieron a los sacerdotes dos mil seiscientos corderos y trescientos novillos. 9 Conanías y sus hermanos Semaías y Natanael, así como Hasabías, Jehiel y Jozabad, jefes de los ayudantes de los sacerdotes, dieron cinco mil corderos y quinientos novillos.
10 Una vez que los sacerdotes estuvieron listos y sus ayudantes se organizaron por grupos, de acuerdo a las órdenes del rey, empezaron la celebración de la Pascua.
11-13 Los sacerdotes sacrificaron los animales de la Pascua y rociaron el altar con la sangre. Los ayudantes les quitaron la piel a los animales, y les sacaron la grasa para darle a cada familia la parte que le correspondía quemar ante Dios. Luego asaron los animales para la fiesta, y el resto de las ofrendas de Dios las cocinaron en ollas, calderos y sartenes. Todo eso lo repartieron entre la gente del pueblo, y así cumplieron con lo que había ordenado Moisés.
14-15 Los ayudantes de los sacerdotes no solo tuvieron que cocinar su propia parte, sino también la que les tocó a todos aquellos que estuvieron muy ocupados como para hacerlo por sí mismos. Los sacerdotes, por ejemplo, estuvieron ocupados hasta el anochecer, presentando la grasa y las ofrendas que fueron quemadas. Los cantores estuvieron ocupados siguiendo las indicaciones que habían dejado David, Asaf, Hemán y Jedutún, el profeta del rey. Y los encargados de vigilar las entradas del templo tampoco pudieron dejar su puesto.
16 Así fue como organizaron todo lo que se necesitó para celebrar la Pascua, y para quemar sobre el altar las ofrendas presentadas a Dios. Todo se hizo según las instrucciones del rey Josías. 17 Durante siete días, los israelitas celebraron la fiesta de la Pascua y de los panes sin levadura.
18-19 Cuando Josías cumplió dieciocho años de gobernar, tanto él como los sacerdotes y el pueblo celebraron la Pascua en Jerusalén. Nunca antes se había festejado la Pascua de esa manera; ni en la época en que gobernó el profeta Samuel, ni en la época de los reyes que gobernaron Israel antes de Josías.
La muerte de Josías
(2 R 23.28-30)20 Mucho tiempo después de que Josías reparara el templo, Necao, rey de Egipto, salió en plan de guerra hacia Carquemis, junto al río Éufrates. Josías pensó que Necao quería atacarlo; 21 pero Necao envió mensajeros a decirle:
«No tengo nada contra ti, rey de Judá. No he salido a pelear contra ti, sino contra una nación enemiga. Además, Dios me ha ordenado hacer esto con prontitud. No te opongas a los planes de Dios, porque él podría destruirte».
22 Pero Josías no se dio cuenta de que Dios le estaba hablando por medio de Necao. Así que se puso su armadura y fue a pelear contra Necao en el valle de Meguido. 23 En medio de la batalla, una flecha alcanzó al rey Josías, y sus ayudantes lo sacaron del campo, pues estaba herido de muerte. 24 Lo sacaron del carro de combate en el que estaba, lo pasaron a otro de sus carros, y lo llevaron a Jerusalén. Sin embargo, poco después murió. Lo enterraron junto a la tumba de sus antepasados, y todos en Judá y Jerusalén lamentaron en gran manera la muerte de Josías.
25 Jeremías compuso un canto que expresaba su gran tristeza por la muerte de Josías. Lo mismo hicieron los cantores y cantoras; y hasta el momento en que esto se escribió, era costumbre en Israel recordar a Josías con esas canciones tan tristes. La letra de estas canciones está escrita en el «Libro de las lamentaciones».
26-27 La historia de Josías está escrita en el libro de la historia de los reyes de Israel y de Judá. En ese libro se puede leer acerca de todo lo que hizo Josías, y de cómo obedeció la ley de Dios.
1 Moreover Josiah kept a passover unto the LORD in Jerusalem: and they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month. 2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD, 3 And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel, 4 And prepare yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son. 5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites. 6 So kill the passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 7 And Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the passover offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the king’s substance. 8 And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests for the passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle , and three hundred oxen. 9 Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for passover offerings five thousand small cattle , and five hundred oxen. 10 So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king’s commandment. 11 And they killed the passover, and the priests sprinkled the blood from their hands, and the Levites flayed them . 12 And they removed the burnt offerings, that they might give according to the divisions of the families of the people, to offer unto the LORD, as it is written in the book of Moses. And so did they with the oxen. 13 And they roasted the passover with fire according to the ordinance: but the other holy offerings sod they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them speedily among all the people. 14 And afterward they made ready for themselves, and for the priests: because the priests the sons of Aaron were busied in offering of burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the priests the sons of Aaron. 15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them. 16 So all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of king Josiah. 17 And the children of Israel that were present kept the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days. 18 And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this passover kept.
20 ¶ After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Carchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him. 21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not. 22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo. 23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded. 24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
25 ¶ And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations. 26 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the LORD, 27 And his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
