Pedro sana a un hombre que no podía caminar
1 Un día, como a las tres de la tarde, Pedro y Juan fueron al templo. A esa hora los judíos acostumbraban orar. 2 Todos los días, un hombre que nunca había podido caminar era llevado a una de las entradas del templo, conocida como Portón Hermoso. Ese hombre pedía limosna a la gente que entraba en el templo. 3 Tan pronto como ese hombre vio a Pedro y a Juan, les pidió dinero. 4 Ellos lo miraron fijamente, y Pedro le dijo: «Préstanos atención.»
5 Aquel hombre los miró atentamente, pensando que iban a darle algo. 6 Sin embargo, Pedro le dijo: «No tengo oro ni plata, pero te voy a dar lo que sí tengo: En el nombre de Jesucristo de Nazaret, te ordeno que te levantes y camines.»
7 Enseguida, Pedro lo tomó de la mano derecha y lo levantó. En ese mismo instante, las piernas y los pies de aquel hombre se hicieron fuertes 8 y, de un salto, se puso en pie y empezó a caminar. Sin más, entró en el templo con Pedro y Juan, caminando y saltando y alabando a Dios.
9-10 Todos los que lo veían caminar y alabar a Dios estaban realmente sorprendidos, pues no entendían lo que había pasado. Sabían, sin embargo, que era el mismo hombre que antes se sentaba a pedir dinero junto al Portón Hermoso.
Pedro habla frente al templo
11 Sin separarse de Pedro ni de Juan, el hombre siguió caminando. La gente corrió asombrada tras ellos hasta otra entrada, conocida como Portón de Salomón, y los rodeó. 12 Al ver eso, Pedro les dijo:
«Amigos israelitas, ¿qué les sorprende? ¿Por qué nos miran así? ¿Acaso creen que nosotros sanamos a este hombre con nuestro propio poder? 13 Nuestros antepasados Abraham, Isaac y Jacob adoraron a Dios. Y ese mismo Dios es quien nos ha enviado a Jesús como Mesías, y nos ha mostrado lo maravilloso y poderoso que es Jesús. Pero ustedes lo entregaron a los gobernantes romanos, y aunque Pilato quiso soltarlo, ustedes no se lo permitieron.
14 »Jesús sólo obedecía a Dios, y siempre hacía lo bueno. Pero ustedes lo rechazaron y le pidieron a Pilato que dejara libre a un asesino. 15 Fue así como mataron a Jesús, el único que podía darles vida eterna. Pero Dios ha hecho que Jesús resucite, y de eso nosotros somos testigos.
16 »Nosotros confiamos en el poder de Jesús; y como todos ustedes vieron, esa confianza es la que ha sanado completamente a este hombre.
17 »Israelitas, ni ustedes ni sus líderes se dieron cuenta del mal que estaban haciendo. 18 Pero Dios ya había anunciado, por medio de sus profetas, que el Mesías tendría que sufrir, y así ocurrió. 19 Por eso, dejen de pecar y vuelvan a obedecer a Dios. Así él olvidará todo lo malo que ustedes han hecho, les dará nuevas fuerzas 20 y les enviará a Jesús, que es el Mesías que desde un principio Dios había decidido enviarles. 21 Por ahora, Jesús tiene que quedarse en el cielo, hasta que Dios vuelva a hacer nuevas todas las cosas. Esto también lo anunciaron hace mucho los profetas que Dios eligió.
22 »Uno de esos profetas fue Moisés, quien dijo: “Dios elegirá a uno de nuestro pueblo, para que sea un profeta como yo. Ustedes harán todo lo que él les diga. 23 El que no lo obedezca, dejará de ser parte de nuestro pueblo.”
24 »También Samuel y todos los demás profetas anunciaron las cosas que están pasando ahora. 25 Hace mucho tiempo Dios hizo un pacto con los antepasados de ustedes, y les hizo una promesa. Pues todo lo que Dios les prometió por medio de los profetas, ahora lo cumplirá con ustedes. Y esta es la promesa que Dios le hizo a Abraham, uno de nuestros antepasados:
“Todos los pueblos de la tierra
recibirán mis bendiciones
por medio de tus descendientes.”
26 »Ahora que Dios ha resucitado a su hijo Jesús, lo primero que hizo fue enviarlo a ustedes, para bendecirlos y para que dejen de hacer lo malo.»
1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour . 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. 11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.
12 ¶ And when Peter saw it , he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? 13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. 14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; 15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it , as did also your rulers. 18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
19 ¶ Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. 25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
