Dios elige a Jehú para ser rey de Israel
1 Un día, el profeta Eliseo llamó a uno de sus discípulos y le dijo:
«Prepárate para ir a Ramot de Galaad. Toma este frasco de aceite, 2 y cuando llegues allá busca a Jehú, el hijo de Josafat y nieto de Nimsí. Ve a donde está él, sepáralo de sus compañeros y llévalo a otra habitación. 3 Toma el frasco de aceite, derrámalo sobre su cabeza y dile: “Dios te elige para ser rey de Israel”. Después abre la puerta y escapa. No te detengas».
4 Entonces el joven profeta fue a Ramot de Galaad. 5 Cuando llegó, los jefes del ejército estaban reunidos. El profeta dijo:
—Tengo que decirle algo, mi capitán.
Jehú preguntó:
—¿A quién de nosotros?
El profeta respondió:
—A usted, mi capitán.
6 Entonces Jehú y el profeta fueron a otra habitación. Allí el joven profeta derramó el aceite sobre la cabeza de Jehú y dijo:
«El Dios de Israel lo elige a usted para ser rey de su pueblo. 7 Usted matará a toda la familia del rey Ahab. De esa manera les dará el castigo que se merecen, pues Jezabel ordenó matar a los profetas que le fueron fieles a Dios. 8 Toda la familia de Ahab va a morir. Dios acabará con todos los descendientes de ese rey que aún vivan en Israel, ya sean libres o esclavos. 9 Dios hará con la familia de Ahab lo mismo que hizo con la familia de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, y con la familia de Baasá hijo de Ahías. 10 Nadie enterrará a Jezabel, pues los perros se comerán su cuerpo en el campo de Jezreel».
Después de esto, el profeta abrió la puerta y escapó. 11 Cuando Jehú fue a reunirse con los demás jefes del ejército, estos le preguntaron:
—¿Qué quería ese loco? ¿Hay algún problema?
Jehú les contestó:
—Ustedes ya lo conocen; solo dice tonterías.
12 Ellos le dijeron:
—No es cierto. Dinos qué quería.
Jehú les respondió:
—Me dijo que Dios me eligió para ser rey de Israel.
13 Enseguida cada uno de ellos tomó su capa y la puso sobre los escalones como si fuera una alfombra. Después tocaron la trompeta y gritaron: «¡Viva el rey Jehú!»
Jehú se rebela en contra de Joram
14-16 El rey Joram había ido a la ciudad de Ramot de Galaad para defenderla del ataque de Hazael, rey de Siria. Pero los sirios hirieron a Joram en la batalla y este tuvo que regresar a la ciudad de Jezreel para curarse. Ocozías, rey de Judá, se enteró de lo sucedido y fue a visitarlo.
Mientras tanto, Jehú hacía planes para matar a Joram, así que les dijo a sus compañeros: «Si ustedes de verdad quieren que yo sea el rey, no permitan que nadie vaya a Jezreel a avisarle a Joram de mis planes».
Entonces Jehú subió a su carro de combate y se fue a Jezreel. 17 Cuando el guardia que estaba en la torre vio a Jehú y a la gente que lo acompañaba, dijo: «¡Viene gente!»
Joram ordenó: «Que vaya un soldado a preguntarles si vienen en son de paz».
18 Entonces uno de los soldados tomó un caballo y fue a encontrarse con Jehú, y le dijo:
—El rey quiere saber a qué vienen.
Jehú le contestó:
—¿A ti qué te importa? ¡Ponte detrás de mí!
El hombre que estaba observando en la torre avisó: «El jinete llegó hasta donde estaban, pero no regresa». 19 Entonces el rey envió a otro jinete. Cuando este llegó a donde se encontraban Jehú y su gente, les dijo:
—El rey quiere saber si vienen en son de paz.
Jehú le contestó:
—¿A ti qué te importa? ¡Ponte detrás de mí!
20 El hombre de la torre dijo de nuevo: «El otro jinete llegó también, pero no regresa. Por la manera de conducir parece que se trata de Jehú, pues viene muy rápido». 21 Joram entonces ordenó: «¡Preparen mi carro de combate!»
Ellos prepararon el carro, y después Joram y Ocozías salieron en busca de Jehú. Lo encontraron en el campo de Nabot, en Jezreel. 22 Cuando Joram vio a Jehú le dijo:
—¿Vienes como amigo?
Jehú contestó:
—¿Cómo puedo ser amigo tuyo si tu madre sigue adorando a los ídolos y haciendo brujerías?
23 Joram se dio vuelta y escapó mientras le gritaba a Ocozías: «¡Es una traición, Ocozías! ¡Es una traición!»
24 Jehú estiró su arco con todas sus fuerzas, y le disparó una flecha a Joram. La flecha le entró por la espalda y le atravesó el corazón. Joram cayó muerto en su carro. 25 Entonces Jehú le dijo a su sirviente Bidcar:
«Levanta el cuerpo de Joram y llévalo al campo de Nabot, en Jezreel. Recuerdo que cuando tú y yo manejábamos los carros de combate del rey Ahab, Dios dijo en contra de él: 26 “Ayer vi cómo mataron a Nabot y a sus hijos. Te aseguro que en este mismo lugar voy a darte el castigo que mereces”. Por lo tanto, levántalo y arrójalo en el campo de Nabot. Así se cumplirá lo que Dios había anunciado».
Jehú mata a Ocozías
(2 Cr 22.7-9)27 Cuando el rey de Judá vio lo que había pasado, escapó hacia Bet-hagán. Pero Jehú lo persiguió, y le ordenó a sus soldados: «¡Mátenlo a él también!»
Ocozías iba en su carro subiendo por Gur, cerca de Ibleam, cuando fue herido por los soldados de Jehú. Sin embargo, Ocozías pudo escapar a Meguido, donde murió a causa de la herida. 28 Sus sirvientes lo llevaron a Jerusalén en un carro, y lo enterraron en la Ciudad de David, en la tumba de sus antepasados.
29 Ocozías había comenzado a reinar sobre Judá cuando Joram tenía once años de reinar en Israel.
Muerte de Jezabel
30 Después Jehú fue a Jezreel, y cuando Jezabel se enteró, se pintó los ojos, se adornó el cabello y se asomó por la ventana. 31 Cuando Jehú llegó a la entrada de la ciudad, Jezabel le dijo:
—¿Cómo estás? Eres como Zimrí, un asesino de tu rey.
32 Jehú miró hacia la ventana y preguntó:
—¿Quién está de mi parte? ¿Quién?
Dos o tres oficiales del palacio se asomaron para verlo. 33 Jehú les dijo:
—¡Échenla abajo!
Entonces ellos la arrojaron por la ventana. Su sangre salpicó la pared y a los caballos, los cuales pisotearon su cuerpo.
34 Después Jehú fue a comer y beber, y al terminar ordenó: «Ocúpense del cadáver de esa maldita mujer. Entiérrenla, porque era hija de un rey».
35 Pero cuando fueron a sepultarla, solo encontraron los huesos de su cabeza y de sus pies, y las palmas de sus manos. 36 Cuando regresaron y se lo contaron a Jehú, él dijo:
«Sucedió tal como lo había anunciado Dios por medio de su servidor Elías, el de Tisbé. Él dijo que los perros se comerían el cuerpo de Jezabel en el campo de Jezreel. 37 También dijo que su cadáver sería como estiércol de animal sobre la tierra de Jezreel, para que nadie pudiera decir que allí están los restos de Jezabel».
1 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead: 2 And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber; 3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the LORD, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
4 ¶ So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. 5 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain. 6 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel. 7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. 8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel: 9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah: 10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her . And he opened the door, and fled.
11 ¶ Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication. 12 And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I have anointed thee king over Israel. 13 Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king. 14 So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had kept Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria. 15 But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.
16 So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram. 17 And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take an horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace? 18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not again. 19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. 20 And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously. 21 And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite. 22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many? 23 And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah. 24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot. 25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the LORD laid this burden upon him; 26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the LORD; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground , according to the word of the LORD.
27 ¶ But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this , he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there. 28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David. 29 And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.
30 ¶ And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window. 31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master? 32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs. 33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot. 34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman , and bury her: for she is a king’s daughter. 35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. 36 Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel: 37 And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
