Jesús y Moisés
1 Hermanos, Dios los ha llamado a ustedes para que sean su pueblo elegido. Por eso, pónganse a pensar seriamente en quién es Jesús: ¡Él es nuestro apóstol y nuestro Jefe de sacerdotes! 2 Dios le encargó que nos ayudara, y él lo obedeció, así como Moisés también obedeció cuando Dios le ordenó ayudar a todo su pueblo.
3 Pero Dios le dio a Jesús más honra que a Moisés. Es como cuando se construye una casa: el que la construye es más importante que la casa misma. 4 Toda casa ha sido construida por alguien, pero Dios es quien ha hecho todo lo que existe. 5 Moisés sirvió a Dios y lo obedeció en todo, pues ayudó al pueblo de Dios tal como se le ordenó, y anunció al pueblo lo que Dios iba a decir en el futuro. 6 Pero Cristo, que es el Hijo de Dios, es obediente y ayuda a este pueblo de Dios, que somos nosotros. Y nosotros somos parte de ese pueblo, si seguimos creyendo firmemente y con alegría en la salvación que recibiremos.
La obediencia
7 Por eso hay que hacer lo que el Espíritu Santo dice:
«Si hoy escuchan la voz de Dios,
8 no sean tercos,
como aquellos israelitas,
que no quisieron obedecerlo
en el desierto.
Ellos quisieron ver hasta dónde
soportaría Dios su desobediencia.
»Por eso Dios les dijo:
9 Aunque los traté bien
durante cuarenta años,
sus antepasados
me pusieron a prueba en el desierto.
10 Entonces me enojé,
y les hice ver
que vivían en el error,
pues no obedecían mis mandamientos.
11 Por eso, ya enojado decidí:
“No voy a permitirles
entrar en la tierra prometida,
donde los habría hecho descansar.”»
12 ¡Cuidado, hermanos! No piensen en lo malo, ni dejen de confiar en el Dios que vive para siempre, para que no se aparten de él. 13 Al contrario, mientras aún queda tiempo, cada uno debe animar al otro a seguir confiando. Así nadie dejará de obedecer a Dios, ni pensará que, si peca, hace el bien. 14 Al principio, cuando confiamos en Cristo, nos hicimos compañeros suyos; y si no dejamos de confiar en él, seguiremos siendo sus compañeros siempre. 15 Por eso la Biblia dice:
«Si hoy escuchan la voz de Dios,
no sean tercos,
como aquellos israelitas
que no quisieron obedecerlo.»
16 ¿Y quiénes fueron los que escucharon a Dios y no quisieron obedecerlo? ¡Pues todos aquellos que Moisés sacó de Egipto! 17 ¿Y con quiénes estuvo Dios enojado durante cuarenta años? ¡Pues con los que pecaron y luego cayeron muertos en el desierto! 18 ¿Y a quiénes les juró Dios que no les daría descanso en la región de Canaán? ¡Pues a los que no le obedecieron! 19 Y en verdad, no pudieron entrar en Canaán y descansar, porque no confiaron en Dios.
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; 2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. 3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. 4 For every house is builded by some man ; but he that built all things is God. 5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; 6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. 7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) 12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
