Saulo, seguidor de Jesús
(Hch 22.6-16Hch 26.12-18)1-2 Saulo estaba furioso y amenazaba con matar a todos los seguidores del Señor Jesús. Por eso fue a pedirle al jefe de los sacerdotes unas cartas con un permiso especial. Quería ir a la ciudad de Damasco y sacar de las sinagogas a todos los que siguieran las enseñanzas de Jesús, para llevarlos presos a la cárcel de Jerusalén.
3 Ya estaba Saulo por llegar a Damasco cuando, de pronto, desde el cielo lo rodeó un gran resplandor, como de un rayo. 4 Saulo cayó al suelo, y una voz le dijo:
—¡Saulo, Saulo! ¿Por qué me persigues?
5 —¿Quién eres, Señor? —preguntó Saulo.
—Yo soy Jesús —respondió la voz—. Es a mí a quien estás persiguiendo. 6 Pero levántate y entra en la ciudad, que allí sabrás lo que tienes que hacer.
7 Los hombres que iban con Saulo se quedaron muy asustados, pues oyeron la voz, pero no vieron a nadie. 8 Por fin, Saulo se puso de pie pero, aunque tenía los ojos abiertos, no podía ver nada. Entonces lo tomaron de la mano y lo llevaron a la ciudad de Damasco. 9 Allí Saulo estuvo ciego durante tres días, y no quiso comer ni beber nada.
10 En Damasco vivía un seguidor de Jesús llamado Ananías. En una visión que tuvo, oyó que el Señor Jesús lo llamaba:
—¡Ananías! ¡Ananías!
—Señor, aquí estoy —respondió.
Y el Señor le dijo:
11 —Levántate y ve a la Calle Recta. En la casa de Judas, busca a un hombre de la ciudad de Tarso. Se llama Saulo, y está orando allí. 12 Yo le he mostrado que un hombre, llamado Ananías, llegará a poner sus manos sobre él, para que pueda ver de nuevo.
13 —Señor —respondió Ananías—, me han contado que en Jerusalén este hombre ha hecho muchas cosas terribles contra tus seguidores. 14 ¡Hasta el jefe de los sacerdotes le ha dado permiso para que atrape aquí, en Damasco, a todos los que te adoran!
15 Sin embargo, el Señor Jesús le dijo:
—Ve, porque yo he elegido a ese hombre para que me sirva. Él hablará de mí ante reyes y gente que no me conoce, y ante el pueblo de Israel. 16 Yo le voy a mostrar lo mucho que va a sufrir por mí.
17 Ananías fue y entró en la casa donde estaba Saulo. Al llegar, le puso las manos sobre la cabeza y le dijo: «Amigo Saulo, el Señor Jesús se te apareció cuando venías hacia Damasco. Él mismo me mandó que viniera aquí, para que puedas ver de nuevo y para que recibas el Espíritu Santo.»
18 Al instante, algo duro, parecido a las escamas de pescado, cayó de los ojos de Saulo, y este pudo volver a ver. Entonces se puso de pie y fue bautizado. 19 Después de eso, comió y tuvo nuevas fuerzas.
Saulo huye de Damasco
Saulo pasó algunos días allí en Damasco, con los seguidores de Jesús, 20 y muy pronto empezó a ir a las sinagogas para anunciar a los judíos que Jesús era el Hijo de Dios. 21 Todos los que lo oían, decían asombrados: «Pero si es el mismo que allá, en Jerusalén, perseguía y maltrataba a los seguidores de Jesús. Precisamente vino a Damasco a buscar más seguidores, para llevarlos atados ante los sacerdotes principales.»
22 Y cada día Saulo hablaba con más poder del Espíritu Santo, y les probaba que Jesús era el Mesías. Sin embargo, los judíos que vivían en Damasco lo escuchaban, pero no entendían nada. 23 Tiempo después, se pusieron de acuerdo para matarlo; 24 pero Saulo se dio cuenta de ese plan. Supo que la entrada de la ciudad era vigilada de día y de noche, y que habían puesto hombres para matarlo. 25 Así que, una noche, los seguidores de Jesús lo escondieron dentro de un canasto y lo bajaron por la muralla de la ciudad.
Saulo en Jerusalén
26 Saulo se fue a la ciudad de Jerusalén, y allí trató de unirse a los seguidores de Jesús. Pero estos tenían miedo de Saulo, pues no estaban seguros de que en verdad él creyera en Jesús.
27 Bernabé sí lo ayudó, y lo llevó ante los apóstoles. Allí Bernabé les contó cómo Saulo se había encontrado con el Señor Jesús en el camino a Damasco, y cómo le había hablado. También les contó que allí, en Damasco, Saulo había anunciado sin miedo la buena noticia acerca de Jesús.
28 Desde entonces Saulo andaba con los demás seguidores de Jesús en toda la ciudad de Jerusalén, y hablaba sin miedo acerca del Señor Jesús. 29 También trataba de convencer a los judíos de habla griega, pero ellos empezaron a hacer planes para matarlo. 30 Cuando los seguidores de Jesús se enteraron, llevaron a Saulo hasta la ciudad de Cesarea, y de allí lo enviaron a la ciudad de Tarso.
31 En las regiones de Judea, Galilea y Samaria, los miembros de la iglesia vivían sin miedo de ser maltratados. Seguían adorando al Señor, y cada día confiaban más en él. Con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo, cada vez se unían más y más personas al grupo de seguidores del Señor Jesús.
Pedro sana a Eneas
32 Pedro viajaba por muchos lugares, para visitar a los seguidores del Señor Jesús. En cierta ocasión, pasó a la ciudad de Lida, para visitar a los miembros de la iglesia en ese lugar. 33 Allí conoció a un hombre llamado Eneas, que desde hacía ocho años estaba enfermo y no podía levantarse de su cama.
34 Pedro le dijo: «Eneas, Jesús el Mesías te ha sanado. Levántate y arregla tu cama.»
Al instante, Eneas se levantó. 35 Al ver ese milagro, todos los que vivían en Lida y en la región de Sarón creyeron en el Señor Jesús.
Tabitá vuelve a vivir
36 En el puerto de Jope vivía una seguidora de Jesús llamada Tabitá. Su nombre griego era Dorcas, que significa «Gacela». Tabitá siempre servía a los demás y ayudaba mucho a los pobres. 37 Por esos días Tabitá se enfermó y murió. Entonces, de acuerdo con la costumbre, lavaron su cuerpo y lo pusieron en un cuarto del piso superior de la casa.
38 Pedro estaba en Lida, ciudad cercana al puerto de Jope. Cuando los seguidores de Jesús que vivían en Jope lo supieron, enseguida enviaron a dos hombres con este mensaje urgente: «Por favor, venga usted tan pronto como pueda.»
39 De inmediato, Pedro se fue a Jope con ellos. Al llegar, lo llevaron a donde estaba el cuerpo de Tabitá. Muchas viudas se acercaron llorosas a Pedro, y todas le mostraban los vestidos y los mantos que Tabitá les había hecho cuando aún vivía.
40 Pedro mandó que toda la gente saliera del lugar. Luego se arrodilló y oró al Señor. Después de eso, se dio vuelta hacia donde estaba el cuerpo de Tabitá y le ordenó: «¡Tabitá, levántate!»
Ella abrió los ojos, miró a Pedro y se sentó. 41 Pedro le dio la mano para ayudarla a ponerse de pie; luego llamó a los seguidores de Jesús y a las viudas, y les presentó a Tabitá viva.
42 Todos los que vivían en Jope se enteraron de esto, y muchos creyeron en el Señor Jesús. 43 Por un tiempo Pedro se quedó en Jope, en la casa de un hombre llamado Simón, que se dedicaba a curtir pieles.
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. 8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
10 ¶ And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here , Lord. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. 13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: 14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. 15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. 17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. 19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. 20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. 21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? 22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.
23 ¶ And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him: 24 But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. 25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket. 26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. 28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem. 29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him. 30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Cæsarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus. 31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judæa and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
32 ¶ And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters , he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. 33 And there he found a certain man named Æneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. 34 And Peter said unto him, Æneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. 35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.
36 ¶ Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. 37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. 38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. 39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive. 42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord. 43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.
