Segundo castigo: Las ranas llenan el país
1 1 (7.26) Entonces Dios le dijo a Moisés:
«Ve a hablar con el rey de Egipto, y dile de mi parte que los deje ir al desierto para que me adoren. 2 2 (7.27) Si no los deja ir, yo haré que todo Egipto se llene de ranas. 3-4 3-4 (7.28-29) Habrá ranas en el río Nilo, y en el palacio del rey, y en las casas de sus consejeros y de todo su pueblo. Se meterán en su habitación y se treparán en su cama; ¡habrá ranas hasta donde amasan su pan!»
5 5 (1) Moisés fue a hablar con el rey de Egipto, pero como este no dejó que el pueblo se fuera, Dios le dijo a Moisés: «Dile a Aarón que tome su vara y la extienda sobre los ríos, arroyos y lagunas, para que salgan ranas y llenen todo Egipto».
6 6 (2) Aarón extendió su brazo sobre todos los depósitos de agua de Egipto, y de allí salieron ranas y llenaron todo el país. 7 7 (3) También los magos egipcios con su magia hicieron que salieran ranas del agua y que llenaran todo el país. 8 8 (4) El rey, por su parte, mandó llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo:
—Pídanle a su Dios que quite las ranas, porque ya no las soportamos. Si lo hace, yo dejaré que el pueblo de Israel vaya a ofrecerle sacrificios.
9 9 (5) Moisés contestó:
—Muy bien, Su Majestad. Ahora dígame cuándo quiere que le pida a Dios por usted, por sus servidores y por su pueblo. Así las ranas se irán de su palacio y se quedarán solo en el río.
10-11 10-11 (6-7) —¡Que se vayan mañana mismo! —contestó el rey.
—Pues así se hará —dijo Moisés—. Mañana mismo se irán y se quedarán solo en el río. Ya no molestarán más a los egipcios. Así sabrá Su Majestad que no hay otro Dios como el Dios de Israel.
12 12 (8) Moisés y Aarón salieron del palacio del rey. Luego Moisés le rogó a Dios que alejara del rey las ranas que había mandado. 13 13 (9) Dios lo hizo así, y se murieron las ranas que había en las casas, en los patios y en los campos. 14 14 (10) Los egipcios juntaron en montones las ranas muertas, y todo el país olía muy mal. 15 15 (11) Pero tal como Dios lo había dicho, en cuanto el rey vio que ya todo había pasado, no les hizo caso, sino que se puso más terco y no dejó salir a los israelitas.
Tercer castigo: El polvo se convierte en mosquitos
16 16 (12) Entonces Dios le dijo a Moisés: «Dile a Aarón que golpee con su vara el polvo del suelo de Egipto, para que se convierta en mosquitos».
17 17 (13) Moisés y Aarón hicieron lo que Dios les ordenó. Aarón extendió el brazo y con su vara golpeó el polvo del suelo. Al instante, todo el polvo de Egipto se convirtió en mosquitos que picaban a la gente y a los animales. 18 18 (14) Los magos de Egipto intentaron hacer lo mismo, pero no pudieron. Y como los mosquitos seguían atacando a la gente y a los animales, 19 19 (15) los magos fueron a ver al rey y le dijeron: «¡Dios está haciendo todo esto!»
Una vez más, todo sucedió como Dios lo había dicho: El rey de Egipto se puso terco y no les hizo caso ni a Moisés ni a Aarón.
Cuarto castigo: Muchas moscas atacan a Egipto
20 20 (16) Entonces Dios le dijo a Moisés:
«Levántate mañana muy temprano, y cuando el rey baje al río le saldrás al encuentro y le dirás de mi parte que deje salir a mi pueblo para que vaya a adorarme. 21 21 (17) Si no los deja ir, yo enviaré muchas moscas para que lo molesten a él, y a sus servidores y a su pueblo. Todas las casas egipcias se llenarán de moscas, y habrá moscas hasta en el suelo. 22-23 22-23 (18-19) Sin embargo, no enviaré moscas sobre la región de Gosén, donde vive mi pueblo; las moscas atacarán a los egipcios, pero no a los israelitas. Esto lo haré mañana mismo. Así sabrá el rey de Egipto, que el Dios de los israelitas está en su país».
24 24 (20) Y Dios cumplió lo que había anunciado: envió muchísimas moscas, que se metieron en el palacio del rey y en las casas de sus servidores. Todo Egipto se llenó de moscas y quedó arruinado. 25 25 (21) Al ver esto el rey, mandó a llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo:
—Vayan y adoren a su Dios, pero no salgan del país.
26 26 (22) Moisés le contestó:
—No creo que debamos hacerlo. A los egipcios no les gustará vernos adorar a nuestro Dios y ofrecerle animales que para ellos son sagrados. Si llegan a vernos haciéndolo, lo más seguro es que nos maten a pedradas. 27 27 (23) Es mejor que vayamos al desierto, hasta donde lleguemos en tres días, y que allí le ofrezcamos sacrificios a nuestro Dios, tal como él nos lo ha ordenado.
28 28 (24) El rey contestó:
—Yo los dejaré ir al desierto a ofrecer sacrificios a su Dios, siempre y cuando no se alejen mucho, y le pidan a su Dios por mí.
29 29 (25) Moisés dijo:
—En cuanto salga yo de aquí, le pediré a Dios que mañana mismo aleje de Egipto las moscas. Pero lo haré siempre y cuando Su Majestad permita, de una vez por todas, que mi pueblo vaya y ofrezca sacrificios a nuestro Dios.
30-31 30-31 (26-27) Moisés salió del palacio y le pidió a Dios que alejara del rey las moscas, y Dios así lo hizo. No quedó una sola mosca. 32 32 (28) Pero el rey volvió a ponerse terco y no dejó salir a los israelitas.
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me. 2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs: 3 And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs: 4 And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.
5 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt. 6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt. 7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
8 ¶ Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD. 9 And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only? 10 And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God. 11 And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only. 12 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh. 13 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields. 14 And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
16 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. 19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
20 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me. 21 Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies , and also the ground whereon they are . 22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth. 23 And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be. 24 And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies .
25 ¶ And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land. 26 And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us? 27 We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us. 28 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me. 29 And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD. 30 And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. 31 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one. 32 And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.
