La mujer de Sunem recupera sus bienes
1 Dios había anunciado que todo el país iba a pasar hambre durante siete años. Por eso Eliseo le aconsejó a la madre del niño que resucitó: «Vete con tu familia a otro lugar».
2 La mujer siguió el consejo del profeta, y se fue con su familia a vivir en el país de los filisteos. Allí vivió siete años. 3 Al final de esos siete años, abandonó el territorio de los filisteos, y se fue a hablar con el rey de Israel para que le devolviera su casa y sus tierras.
4-5 El rey le había pedido a Guehazí, el sirviente del profeta Eliseo, que le contara todas las maravillas que había hecho el profeta. Y en el momento en que Guehazí le estaba contando cómo Eliseo había resucitado al hijo de la mujer de Sunem, esta llegó buscando al rey. Entonces Guehazí le dijo: «Majestad, ¡aquí tiene usted a la madre y al muchacho de quienes le hablaba!»
6 El rey le hizo unas preguntas a la mujer y ella las contestó. Después, el rey llamó a uno de sus ayudantes y le dijo: «Devuélvanle a esta mujer todo lo que le pertenecía y todo lo que han producido sus campos desde el momento en que se fue hasta ahora».
Hazael mata a Ben-hadad
7 Tiempo después, Eliseo se fue a la ciudad de Damasco. Ben-hadad, el rey de Siria, estaba enfermo, y cuando le dijeron que el profeta había llegado, 8 le dijo a Hazael: «Toma un regalo y llévaselo al profeta. Dile que le pregunte a Dios si voy a sanar».
9 Hazael fue a buscar a Eliseo, y en cuarenta camellos, le llevó de regalo de lo mejor que había en Damasco. Cuando llegó delante de Eliseo, le dijo:
—Ben-hadad, rey de Siria, te considera como un padre. Me envía para que me digas si él va a sanar de su enfermedad.
10 Eliseo le contestó:
—Ve y dile que sí va a sanar, aunque Dios me hizo saber que muy pronto morirá.
11 Después Eliseo miró fijamente a Hazael hasta que este se sintió incómodo. El profeta se puso a llorar 12 y Hazael le preguntó:
—Señor, ¿por qué llora?
Eliseo le respondió:
—Porque yo sé todo el mal que vas a causarle a mi pueblo Israel. Vas a quemar sus ciudades amuralladas, y acabarás por completo con todos sus habitantes.
13 Hazael dijo:
—¿Por qué me crees capaz de algo tan terrible? Yo valgo menos que un perro.
Eliseo contestó:
—Ya Dios me hizo saber que tú serás el próximo rey de Siria.
14 Después de eso, Hazael se despidió de Eliseo y fue a ver al rey Ben-hadad, quien le preguntó:
—¿Qué te dijo Eliseo?
Hazael le respondió:
—Me dijo que usted va a sanar de su enfermedad.
15 Pero al día siguiente Hazael tomó un paño, lo mojó en agua y se lo puso en la cara a Ben-hadad hasta asfixiarlo. Después de esto, Hazael se convirtió en el nuevo rey de Siria.
Joram, rey de Judá
(2 Cr 21.1-20)16 Joram hijo de Josafat comenzó a reinar en Judá cuando Joram hijo de Ahab ya tenía cinco años de gobernar en Israel. 17 Joram hijo de Josafat tenía treinta y dos años cuando comenzó a reinar. La capital de su reino fue Jerusalén, y su reinado duró ocho años. 18 Joram desobedeció a Dios, al igual que los otros reyes de Israel, y en especial los de la familia de Ahab, porque se casó con la hija de Ahab. 19 A pesar de eso, Dios no quiso destruir a Judá por amor a David, quien le fue fiel, y a quien Dios le había prometido que su familia siempre reinaría.
20 Durante el reinado de Joram, el país de Edom se rebeló contra Judá. Los edomitas ya no querían seguir bajo el dominio de Judá, y por eso nombraron su propio rey. 21 Joram se puso en marcha hacia Saír con todos sus carros de combate. Los edomitas los rodearon, pero Joram y los capitanes de sus carros de combate se levantaron de noche y los atacaron. Sin embargo, el ejército de Edom logró escapar. 22 Hasta el momento en que esto se escribió, Judá no pudo volver a dominar a los edomitas, como tampoco volvió a controlar la ciudad de Libná.
23 Todo lo que hizo Joram está escrito en el libro de la historia de los reyes de Judá. 24 Cuando murió, lo enterraron en la Ciudad de David, en la tumba de sus antepasados. Después, su hijo Ocozías reinó en su lugar.
Ocozías, rey de Judá
(2 Cr 22.1-6)25 Ocozías hijo de Joram comenzó a reinar en Judá cuando Joram hijo de Ahab ya tenía doce años de gobernar en Israel. 26 Ocozías tenía veintidós años cuando comenzó a reinar. La capital de su reino fue Jerusalén, y su reinado duró un año. Su madre se llamaba Atalía y era nieta de Omrí, que fue rey en Israel. 27 Ocozías desobedeció a Dios, pues siguió el mal ejemplo de Ahab y su familia, pues eran parientes.
28 Ocozías se unió con Joram hijo de Ahab, para luchar en Ramot de Galaad contra Hazael, rey de Siria. Pero los sirios hirieron a Joram, 29 y este regresó a Jezreel para que le curaran las heridas. Entonces Ocozías, rey de Judá, fue a Jezreel a visitar a Joram.
1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. 2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. 3 And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land. 4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done. 5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. 6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
7 ¶ And Elisha came to Damascus; and Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither. 8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease? 9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease? 10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the LORD hath shewed me that he shall surely die. 11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept. 12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child. 13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria. 14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover. 15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 ¶ And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. 17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the LORD. 19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
20 ¶ In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. 21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents. 22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time. 23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
25 ¶ In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign. 26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel. 27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
28 ¶ And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramoth-gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. 29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
