Un plan contra Jesús
(Mc 14.1-2Lc 22.1-2Jn 11.45-53)1 Cuando Jesús terminó de enseñar, dijo a sus discípulos: 2 «Ustedes saben que dentro de dos días va a celebrarse la fiesta de la Pascua. Durante la fiesta, yo, el Hijo del hombre, seré apresado y moriré clavado en una cruz.»
3 En esos días, los sacerdotes principales y los líderes del país se reunieron en el palacio de Caifás, que era jefe de los sacerdotes. 4 Todos ellos se pusieron de acuerdo para ponerle una trampa a Jesús, apresarlo y matarlo. 5 Pero algunos decían: «No hay que hacerlo durante la fiesta, para que la gente no se enoje contra nosotros ni se arme un gran alboroto.»
Una mujer perfuma a Jesús
(Mc 14.3-9Jn 12.1-8)6 Jesús estaba en el pueblo de Betania, en casa de Simón, el que había tenido lepra. 7 Mientras Jesús comía, llegó una mujer con un frasco de perfume muy caro. La mujer se acercó a Jesús y derramó el perfume sobre su cabeza.
8 Los discípulos se enojaron y dijeron:
—¡Qué desperdicio! 9 Ese perfume pudo haberse vendido, y con el dinero hubiéramos ayudado a muchos pobres.
10 Jesús los escuchó, y enseguida les dijo:
—No critiquen a esta mujer. Ella me ha tratado con mucha bondad. 11 Cerca de ustedes siempre habrá gente pobre, pero muy pronto yo no estaré aquí con ustedes. 12 Esta mujer derramó perfume sobre mi cabeza, sin saber que estaba preparando mi cuerpo para mi entierro. 13 Les aseguro que en cualquier lugar donde se anuncien las buenas noticias de Dios, se contará la historia de lo que hizo esta mujer y se guardará la memoria de ella.
Judas traiciona a Jesús
(Mc 14.10-11Lc 22.3-6)14 Ese mismo día, Judas Iscariote, que era uno de los doce discípulos de Jesús, fue a ver a los sacerdotes principales 15 y les dijo: «¿Cuánto me pagan si los ayudo a atrapar a Jesús?»
Ellos le ofrecieron treinta monedas de plata. 16 Y desde ese momento, Judas buscó una buena oportunidad para entregarles a Jesús.
Una cena inolvidable
(Mc 14.12-25Lc 22.7-23Jn 13.21-301 Co 11.23-26)17 El primer día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús y le dijeron:
—¿Dónde quieres que preparemos la cena de la Pascua?
18 Jesús les respondió:
—Vayan a la ciudad, busquen al amigo que ustedes ya conocen, y denle este mensaje: “El Maestro dice: yo sé que pronto moriré; por eso quiero celebrar la Pascua en tu casa, con mis discípulos.”
19 Los discípulos fueron y prepararon todo, tal y como Jesús les mandó. 20 Al anochecer, mientras Jesús y sus discípulos comían, 21 él les dijo:
—Uno de ustedes me va a entregar a mis enemigos.
22 Los discípulos se pusieron muy tristes, y cada uno de ellos le dijo:
—Señor, no estarás acusándome a mí, ¿verdad?
23 Jesús respondió:
—El que ha mojado su pan en el mismo plato en que yo estoy comiendo, es el que va a traicionarme. 24 La Biblia dice claramente que yo, el Hijo del hombre, tengo que morir. Sin embargo, al que me traiciona va a pasarle algo muy terrible. ¡Más le valdría no haber nacido!
25 Judas, el que después entregó a Jesús, también le preguntó:
—Maestro, ¿hablas de mí?
Jesús le contestó:
—Tú lo has dicho.
26 Mientras estaban comiendo, Jesús tomó un pan y dio gracias a Dios. Luego lo partió, lo dio a sus discípulos y les dijo:
«Tomen y coman; esto es mi cuerpo.»
27 Después tomó una copa llena de vino y dio gracias a Dios. Luego la pasó a sus discípulos y les dijo:
«Beban todos ustedes de este vino. 28 Esto es mi sangre, y con ella Dios hace un trato con todos ustedes. Esa sangre servirá para perdonar los pecados de mucha gente. 29 Esta es la última vez que bebo de este vino con ustedes. Pero cuando estemos juntos otra vez, en el reino de mi Padre, entonces beberemos del vino nuevo.»
30 Después de eso, cantaron un himno y se fueron al Monte de los Olivos.
Pedro promete no dejar a Jesús
(Mc 14.26-31Lc 22.31-34Jn 13.36-38)31 Cuando llegaron al Monte de los Olivos, Jesús les dijo a los discípulos:
—Esta noche ustedes van a perder su confianza en mí. Porque la Biblia dice:
“Mataré a mi mejor amigo,
y así mi pueblo se dispersará.”
32 »Pero cuando Dios me devuelva la vida, iré a Galilea antes que ustedes.
33 Entonces Pedro le dijo:
—Aunque todos te abandonen, yo no te abandonaré.
34 Jesús le respondió:
—Pedro, no estés muy seguro de eso; antes de que el gallo cante, tres veces dirás que no me conoces.
35 Pedro le contestó:
—Aunque tenga que morir contigo, yo nunca diré que no te conozco.
Los demás discípulos dijeron lo mismo.
Jesús ora con mucha tristeza
(Mc 14.32-42Lc 22.39-46)36 Después, Jesús fue con sus discípulos a un lugar llamado Getsemaní, y les dijo: «Quédense aquí, mientras yo voy allí a orar.»
37 Jesús invitó a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan para que lo acompañaran. Luego empezó a sentir una tristeza muy profunda, 38 y les dijo: «Estoy muy triste. Siento que me voy a morir. Quédense aquí conmigo y no se duerman.»
39 Jesús se alejó un poco de ellos, se arrodilló hasta tocar el suelo con la frente, y oró a Dios: «Padre, ¡cómo deseo que me libres de este sufrimiento! Pero no será lo que yo quiera, sino lo que quieras tú.»
40 Jesús regresó a donde estaban los tres discípulos, y los encontró durmiendo. Entonces le dijo a Pedro: «¿No han podido quedarse despiertos conmigo, ni siquiera una hora? 41 No se duerman; oren para que puedan resistir la prueba que se acerca. Ustedes están dispuestos a hacer lo bueno, pero no pueden hacerlo con sus propias fuerzas.»
42 Jesús se fue a orar otra vez, y en su oración decía:
—Padre, si tengo que pasar por este sufrimiento, estoy dispuesto a obedecerte.
43 Jesús regresó de nuevo a donde estaban los tres discípulos, y otra vez los encontró completamente dormidos, pues estaban muy cansados. 44 Nuevamente se apartó de ellos y oró por tercera vez, repitiendo las mismas palabras con que había orado antes. 45 Luego volvió Jesús a donde estaban los tres discípulos y les dijo: «¿Todavía están durmiendo? Ya vienen los malvados para apresarme a mí, el Hijo del hombre. 46 ¡Levántense y vengan conmigo, que allí viene el que me va a entregar!»
Los enemigos apresan a Jesús
(Mc 14.43-50Lc 22.47-53Jn 18.2-11)47 Todavía estaba hablando Jesús cuando llegó Judas, uno de los doce discípulos. Con él venían muchos hombres armados con palos y cuchillos. Los sacerdotes principales y los líderes del país los habían enviado. 48 Judas ya les había dicho: «Al que yo bese, ese es Jesús; ¡arréstenlo!»
49 Judas se acercó a Jesús y le dijo:
—¡Hola, Maestro!
Y lo besó.
50 Jesús le dijo:
—Amigo, haz pronto lo que tienes que hacer.
Los hombres, por su parte, arrestaron a Jesús. 51 Entonces uno de los que acompañaban a Jesús sacó su espada, y con ella le cortó una oreja al sirviente del jefe de los sacerdotes. 52 Pero Jesús le dijo:
—Guarda tu espada, porque al que mata con espada, con espada lo matarán. 53 ¿No sabes que yo puedo pedirle ayuda a mi Padre, y que de inmediato me enviaría todo un ejército de ángeles para defenderme? 54 Deja que todo pase como está sucediendo ahora; solo así puede cumplirse lo que dice la Biblia.
55 Jesús se volvió a la gente y le preguntó:
—¿Por qué han venido con palos y cuchillos, como si yo fuera un criminal? Todos los días estuve enseñando en el templo, y allí nunca me apresaron. 56 Pero todo esto debe suceder para que se cumpla lo que anunciaron los profetas.
En ese momento, todos los discípulos abandonaron a Jesús y huyeron.
El juicio contra Jesús
(Mc 14.53-65Lc 22.54-55Lc 63-71Jn 18.12-14Jn 19-24)57-58 Pedro siguió a Jesús desde lejos y llegó hasta el patio del palacio. Allí se sentó con los guardias para no perderse de nada. Los que arrestaron a Jesús lo llevaron al palacio de Caifás, el jefe de los sacerdotes. Allí estaban reunidos los maestros de la Ley y los líderes del pueblo.
59 Los sacerdotes principales y todos los de la Junta Suprema buscaban gente que mintiera contra Jesús, para poder condenarlo a muerte. 60 Sin embargo, aunque muchos vinieron con mentiras, no pudieron condenarlo.
61 Por fin, hubo dos que dijeron: «Este hombre dijo que es capaz de destruir el templo de Dios, y de construirlo de nuevo en tres días.»
62 El jefe de los sacerdotes dijo a Jesús:
—¿Oíste bien de qué te acusan? ¿Qué puedes decir para defenderte?
63 Pero Jesús no respondió nada. Entonces el jefe de los sacerdotes le dijo:
—Dinos por Dios, quien vive para siempre, si eres tú el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios.
64 Jesús le respondió:
—Tú lo has dicho. Y déjame decirte que, dentro de poco tiempo, ustedes verán cuando yo, el Hijo del hombre, venga en las nubes del cielo con el poder y la autoridad que me da Dios todopoderoso.
65-66 Al escuchar esto, el jefe de los sacerdotes se desgarró la ropa para mostrar su enojo, y dijo:
—¿Qué les parece? ¡Ha insultado a Dios, y ustedes mismos lo han oído! ¡Ya no necesitamos más pruebas!
—¡Que muera! —contestaron todos.
67 Entonces algunos le escupieron en la cara y otros lo golpearon. Aun otros le pegaban en la cara, 68 y le decían: «Mesías, ¡adivina quién te pegó!»
Pedro niega conocer a Jesús
(Mc 14.66-72Lc 22.56-62Jn 18.15-18Jn 25-27)69 Mientras sucedía todo esto, Pedro estaba sentado en el patio del palacio. De pronto, una sirvienta se le acercó y le dijo:
—Tú siempre estabas con Jesús, el de Galilea.
70 Y delante de todos, Pedro le contestó:
—Eso no es cierto; ¡no sé de qué me hablas!
71 Pedro salió por la puerta del patio, pero otra sirvienta lo vio y dijo a los que estaban allí:
—Este también estaba con Jesús, el que vino de Nazaret.
72 Pedro lo negó de nuevo y dijo:
—¡Les juro que no conozco a ese hombre!
73 Un poco más tarde, algunos de los que estaban por allí se acercaron a Pedro y le dijeron:
—Estamos seguros de que tú eres uno de los seguidores de Jesús; hablas como los de Galilea.
74 Pedro les contestó con más fuerza:
—¡Ya les dije que no conozco a ese hombre! ¡Que Dios me castigue si no estoy diciendo la verdad!
En ese momento un gallo cantó, 75 y Pedro se acordó de lo que Jesús le había dicho: «Antes de que el gallo cante, vas a decir tres veces que no me conoces.» Entonces Pedro salió de aquel lugar y se echó a llorar con mucha tristeza.
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, 2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. 3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him . 5 But they said, Not on the feast day , lest there be an uproar among the people.
6 ¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat . 8 But when his disciples saw it , they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 10 When Jesus understood it , he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. 13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14 ¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15 And said unto them , What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 ¶ Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? 18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. 20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. 21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? 23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. 25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26 ¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it , and brake it , and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. 30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. 31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. 34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36 ¶ Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt . 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
47 ¶ And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear. 52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
57 ¶ And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; 60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses, 61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. 62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. 66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. 67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, 68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
69 ¶ Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying , I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
