Advertencia final
1 Esta es la tercera vez que iré a visitarlos. Recuerden lo que la Biblia dice: «Para acusar a alguien, será necesario que se presenten dos o tres testigos.» 2 La segunda vez que los visité, les advertí que iba a ser duro con los que habían pecado y con todos los que pecaran después. Ahora que estoy lejos de ustedes, lo vuelvo a repetir. 3 Y lo hago porque ustedes quieren que les demuestre que hablo de parte de Cristo. Cristo no es débil cuando los corrige, sino que manifiesta su poder entre ustedes. 4 Cuando Cristo fue crucificado, era débil, pero ahora vive por el poder de Dios. Nosotros compartimos con Cristo esa debilidad, pero gracias al poder de Dios también compartimos con él la vida. Si es necesario, cuando vayamos a verlos, les daremos pruebas de ese poder.
5 Pónganse a pensar en su manera de vivir, y vean si de verdad siguen confiando en Cristo. Hagan la prueba, y si la pasan, es porque él vive en ustedes. Pero si no confían en Cristo de verdad, es porque él no está en ustedes. 6 Espero que reconozcan que nosotros sí hemos pasado la prueba. 7 No nos importa si parecemos haber fracasado. Oramos a Dios para que ustedes no hagan nada malo, y no lo pedimos para demostrar que pasamos la prueba, sino para que ustedes hagan lo bueno. 8 Solo podemos hacer lo que está a favor de la verdad, y no lo que está en contra de ella. 9 Por eso, si ustedes pueden ser fuertes, nos alegramos de ser débiles.
Oramos para que sean cada vez mejores seguidores de Cristo. 10 Y les escribo antes de ir a verlos, para que tengan tiempo de cambiar, y así no tenga yo que tratarlos con dureza cuando llegue. La autoridad que Dios me ha dado, es para ayudarlos a confiar más en él y no para destruirlos.
Despedida
11 Eso es todo, queridos hermanos. Me despido de ustedes pidiéndoles que estén alegres. Traten de ser mejores. Háganme caso. Pónganse de acuerdo unos con otros y vivan tranquilos. Y el Dios que nos ama y nos da paz, estará con ustedes. 12 Salúdense unos a otros con un beso de hermanos. Todos en la iglesia les mandan saludos.
13 ¡Que el Señor Jesucristo los bendiga!
¡Que Dios les muestre su amor!
¡Que el Espíritu Santo los acompañe siempre!
1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. 2 I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare: 3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you. 4 For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you. 5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. 7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. 9 For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection. 10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.
11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. 12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.
13 All the saints salute you. 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
