Jesús alimenta a mucha gente
(Mt 15.32-39)1 Un día, mucha gente volvió a reunirse junto a Jesús, y como no tenían nada para comer, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo:
2 —Siento compasión de toda esta gente. Ya han estado conmigo tres días y no tienen nada que comer. 3 Algunos han venido desde muy lejos; si los mando a sus casas sin comer, pueden desmayarse en el camino.
4 Sus discípulos le respondieron:
—Pero en este lugar no vive nadie. ¿Dónde vamos a conseguir comida para tanta gente?
5 Jesús les preguntó:
—¿Cuántos panes tienen?
—Siete —contestaron los discípulos.
6 Jesús le ordenó a la gente que se sentara en el suelo. Luego tomó los siete panes y dio gracias a Dios. Partió los panes en pedazos y se los entregó a sus discípulos, para que ellos los repartieran entre la gente. Los discípulos hicieron lo que Jesús les había mandado.
7 Como también tenían unos cuantos pescaditos, Jesús dio gracias y mandó que los repartieran.
8 Todos los que estaban allí comieron hasta quedar satisfechos, y con los pedazos que sobraron llenaron siete canastas. 9 Los que comieron eran como cuatro mil personas.
Luego Jesús los despidió, 10 subió a la barca y se fue con sus discípulos a la región de Dalmanuta.
Una señal milagrosa
(Mt 16.1-4Lc 12.54-56)11 Los fariseos llegaron a donde estaba Jesús y comenzaron a discutir con él. Para ponerle una trampa, le pidieron que demostrara con alguna señal milagrosa que él venía de parte de Dios.
12 Jesús se molestó mucho por esto, y dijo: «¿Por qué siempre piden ustedes una señal? Les aseguro que no se les dará ninguna.»
13 Entonces Jesús los dejó, volvió a subir a la barca, y se fue al otro lado del lago.
Las enseñanzas de los fariseos
(Mt 16.5-12)14 Los discípulos se habían olvidado de llevar comida, y solo tenían un pan en la barca. 15 Jesús les advirtió:
—Les recomiendo que se cuiden de la levadura de los fariseos y de la levadura de Herodes Antipas.
16 Los discípulos comenzaron a hablar entre ellos y decían:
—Seguramente dijo eso porque no trajimos pan.
17 Jesús se dio cuenta de lo que hablaban y les dijo:
—¿Por qué hablan de pan? ¿Todavía no comprenden? ¿Tienen la mente cerrada? 18 Si tienen ojos, ¿cómo es que no ven? Si tienen oídos, ¿por qué no oyen? ¿No se acuerdan 19 de aquella vez, cuando repartí cinco panes entre cinco mil hombres? ¿Cuántas canastas llenaron entonces con lo que sobró?
Los discípulos respondieron:
—Doce canastas.
20 Jesús les preguntó:
—Y cuando repartí siete panes entre cuatro mil, ¿cuántas canastas llenaron?
—Siete —contestaron los discípulos.
21 Jesús les dijo entonces:
—¿Y todavía no entienden?
Jesús sana a un ciego en Betsaida
22 Cuando llegaron al pueblo de Betsaida, unas personas guiaron a un ciego hasta Jesús y le pidieron que lo tocara.
23 Jesús tomó al ciego de la mano y lo llevó fuera del pueblo. Después le mojó los ojos con saliva, colocó las manos sobre él, y le preguntó si veía algo. 24 El ciego respondió:
—Veo gente, pero parecen árboles que caminan.
25 Entonces Jesús volvió a ponerle las manos sobre los ojos. El hombre miró de nuevo con cuidado, y vio todo claramente, porque ya estaba sano.
26 Jesús le mandó que volviera a su casa, y le dijo:
—No regreses al pueblo.
¿Quién es Jesús?
(Mt 16.13-20Lc 9.18-21)27 Después de esto, Jesús y sus discípulos fueron a los caseríos cercanos al pueblo de Cesarea de Filipo. En el camino, Jesús les preguntó:
—¿Qué dice la gente acerca de mí?
28 Los discípulos contestaron:
—Algunos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista, otros dicen que eres el profeta Elías. Hay otros que piensan que eres alguno de los profetas.
29 Entonces Jesús les preguntó:
—Y ustedes, ¿qué opinan? ¿Quién soy yo?
Y Pedro contestó:
—Tú eres el Mesías.
30 Jesús les ordenó que no le contaran a nadie que él era el Mesías.
Jesús habla de su muerte
(Mt 16.21-28Lc 9.22-27)31 Jesús comenzó a anunciar a sus discípulos lo que le iba a pasar:
«Yo, el Hijo del hombre, voy a sufrir mucho. Seré rechazado por los líderes del pueblo, por los sacerdotes principales y por los maestros de la Ley. Me van a matar, pero tres días después resucitaré.»
32 Como Jesús habló tan claramente de su muerte, Pedro lo llevó aparte y lo reprendió por hablar de eso. 33 Pero Jesús se volvió, y frente a todos sus discípulos regañó a Pedro: «¡Pedro, estás hablando como Satanás! ¡Apártate de mí, pues no entiendes los planes de Dios! Te comportas como cualquier ser humano.»
34 Después, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y a la gente, y les dijo:
«Si ustedes quieren ser mis discípulos, tienen que olvidarse de hacer su propia voluntad. Tienen que estar dispuestos a morir en una cruz y a hacer lo que yo les diga. 35 Porque si solo les preocupa salvar la vida, la van a perder. Pero si deciden dar su vida por mí y por anunciar las buenas noticias, entonces se salvarán. 36 De nada sirve que una persona gane todo lo que quiera en el mundo, si al fin de cuentas pierde su vida. 37 Y no hay nada que una persona pueda dar para salvar su vida.
38 »Delante de esta gente malvada que rechaza a Dios, no se avergüencen de mí ni de mis palabras. Si lo hacen, yo, el Hijo del hombre, me avergonzaré de ustedes cuando venga con el poder de mi Padre y con sus ángeles.»
1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him , and saith unto them, 2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: 3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. 4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? 5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. 6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them ; and they did set them before the people. 7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them . 8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets. 9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10 ¶ And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha. 11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation. 13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
14 ¶ Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf. 15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. 16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. 17 And when Jesus knew it , he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? 18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? 19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve. 20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven. 21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 ¶ And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. 23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. 24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. 25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. 26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 ¶ And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Cæsarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am? 28 And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say , Elias; and others, One of the prophets. 29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. 30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. 31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34 ¶ And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
