Nuevo pacto de Dios con Israel
1-3 1-3 (28.69—29.2) Moisés terminó de dar a los israelitas todas las instrucciones del pacto que Dios había hecho con ellos en el monte Horeb. Entonces Dios le ordenó que hiciera un nuevo pacto con ellos en el país de Moab. Moisés los reunió y les dio las instrucciones del nuevo pacto. Les dijo:
«Ustedes han sido testigos de las muchas maravillas que Dios hizo para castigar a los egipcios. Ustedes vieron cómo trató al rey de Egipto, a sus oficiales y a todo el pueblo. 4 4 (3) Hasta ahora Dios no ha permitido que ustedes entiendan por qué hizo todo eso. 5-6 5-6 (4-5) Durante cuarenta años los ha guiado por el desierto, y nunca les ha faltado alimento. En todo ese tiempo no se les han gastado los zapatos ni la ropa, y esto lo ha hecho para que ustedes se den cuenta de que él es su Dios.
7 7 (6) »Cuando veníamos hacia esta región, el rey de Hesbón y el rey de Basán nos salieron al paso y nos atacaron. Sin embargo, nosotros los derrotamos 8 8 (7) y les quitamos su territorio, para dárselo a las tribus de Rubén y Gad, y a la media tribu de Manasés. 9 9 (8) Por eso les pido que cumplan con todas las instrucciones de este pacto, y les irá bien en todo lo que hagan.
10 10 (9) »Todo Israel se encuentra hoy reunido aquí, delante de Dios. Aquí están los jefes de las tribus, los líderes, las autoridades, y hombres, 11 11 (10) mujeres y niños. También están aquí los extranjeros que les cortan la leña y les acarrean el agua. 12 12 (11) Están aquí para hacer un juramento. Van a comprometerse a cumplir con el pacto que hoy Dios hace con ustedes. 13 13 (12) Dios se compromete hoy a ser nuestro Dios, tal como se lo prometió a nuestros antepasados Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, y nosotros nos comprometemos a ser su pueblo. 14-15 14-15 (13-14) Pero este pacto no es solamente para nosotros. Dios se compromete también con todos nuestros descendientes.
La adoración de dioses falsos
16 16 (15) »Acuérdense de lo que vivimos en Egipto, y de cómo tuvimos que cruzar muchos países para llegar hasta aquí. 17 17 (16) Esa gente adora dioses falsos, y nosotros vimos sus imágenes de madera, piedra, oro y plata, ¡ídolos que Dios aborrece! 18 18 (17) Por eso les ruego que ninguno de ustedes, sea hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, deje a nuestro Dios para adorar a esos dioses falsos. Quienes lo hagan serán como plantas venenosas, que solo producen muerte.
19 19 (18) »Se equivoca quien escuche las instrucciones de este pacto y crea que nada le sucederá si desobedece. Esa persona será culpable de que Dios castigue a todo Israel, 20-21 20-21 (19-20) pero Dios no la perdonará; al contrario, hará que vengan sobre ella todas las maldiciones anunciadas en este libro, que sea separada de su tribu, y que muera hasta el último de sus descendientes. ¡Dios la castigará con furia!
22 22 (21) »Los israelitas que nazcan después, y los extranjeros que vengan de países lejanos, verán los terribles castigos y enfermedades que Dios enviará sobre nuestro país. 23 23 (22) Cuando miren nuestras tierras, no verán más que azufre, sal y tierra quemada. No podremos cultivar nuestros terrenos, pues la tierra no producirá nada, ni siquiera hierba. Será como ver la furiosa destrucción que Dios envió sobre Sodoma, Gomorra, Admá y Seboím.
24 24 (23) »Todo el mundo preguntará: “¿Por qué Dios castigó así a este país? ¿Qué lo hizo enojarse tanto?” 25 25 (24) Y no faltará quien responda: “Su Dios los libró de la esclavitud en Egipto, pero ellos no obedecieron las instrucciones del pacto que su Dios hizo con ellos. 26 26 (25) Al contrario, adoraron a dioses falsos que ni siquiera conocían, y que nunca hicieron nada por ellos. 27 27 (26) Por eso Dios se enojó con ellos y les envió todas las maldiciones anunciadas en este libro. 28 28 (27) Fue tal su enojo, que los expulsó de su país y los envió a los países donde ahora viven”.
29 29 (28) »Hay cosas que Dios mantiene en secreto, y que solo él conoce, pero a nosotros nos ha dado todos estos mandamientos, para que nosotros y nuestros descendientes los obedezcamos siempre».

2 ¶ And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land; 3 The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles: 4 Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day. 5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot. 6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God. 7 And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them: 8 And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh. 9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
10 ¶ Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel, 11 Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water: 12 That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day: 13 That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; 15 But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day: 16 (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by; 17 And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:) 18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood; 19 And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst: 20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven. 21 And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law: 22 So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it; 23 And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: 24 Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger? 25 Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: 26 For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them: 27 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book: 28 And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day. 29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
