1 Cuando terminó la celebración, todos los israelitas fueron a las ciudades de Judá, y a los territorios de las tribus de Benjamín, Efraín y Manasés, y destrozaron las imágenes que la gente adoraba. También destruyeron las imágenes de la diosa Astarté, y los pequeños templos de las colinas. No descansaron hasta acabar con todo eso. Luego regresaron a sus ciudades, cada uno a su hogar.
Ofrendas para los sacerdotes y sus ayudantes
2 Después Ezequías organizó en grupos a los sacerdotes y a sus ayudantes, de acuerdo al turno y al trabajo que les tocaba hacer. Unos presentaban las ofrendas para agradar a Dios o para pedir perdón por los pecados. Otros daban gracias y alababan a Dios, y otros servían como vigilantes de las entradas del templo.
3 El rey tomó de su propio ganado los animales para hacer los sacrificios que Dios ordena en su ley: las ofrendas de la mañana y las de la tarde que se presentaban todos los días de la semana, las ofrendas de los sábados, las de cada mes, y las que se ofrecen a Dios en las fiestas de cada año. 4 Luego el rey le pidió a la gente que vivía en Jerusalén, que también diera ofrendas para que los sacerdotes y sus ayudantes tuvieran todo lo necesario para vivir, y así ellos pudieran dedicarse por completo a servir a Dios como él lo ordena.
5 En cuanto los israelitas se enteraron de la petición del rey, dieron en abundancia de lo mejor que tenían: de su cosecha de trigo, vino, aceite y miel, y de todo lo que habían recogido de sus campos. También entregaron la décima parte de todo lo que tenían, que resultó ser una gran cantidad de cosas.
6-7 Era el mes de Siván, cuando la gente de Israel y de Judá empezó a llevar a Jerusalén la décima parte de sus reses, de sus ovejas y de lo que habían apartado para Dios. Después de cuatro meses dejaron de guardar y acomodar sus ofrendas.
8 Cuando Ezequías y los principales jefes vieron esa gran cantidad de ofrendas, bendijeron a Dios y a su pueblo Israel. 9 Entonces Ezequías les pidió a los sacerdotes y a sus ayudantes que le informaran sobre lo que se estaba haciendo con esas ofrendas. 10 Azarías, que era el jefe de los sacerdotes, y descendiente de Sadoc, le respondió:
«Dios ha bendecido a su pueblo, y es tanto lo que desde el principio han traído al templo, que no nos ha faltado comida; por el contrario, ha sobrado mucho».
11 Entonces Ezequías mandó que prepararan las bodegas del templo de Dios, 12 y allí guardaron todos los diezmos y ofrendas que la gente había traído. Para cuidar de todo eso, nombraron a Conanías y a su hermano Simí, que eran ayudantes de los sacerdotes. 13 Bajo sus órdenes estaban los vigilantes, que también fueron nombrados por el rey y por Azarías, que era el jefe principal del templo de Dios. Sus nombres eran:
Jehiel,
Azazías,
Náhat,
Asael,
Jerimot,
Jozabad,
Eliel,
Ismaquías,
Máhat,
Benaías.
14-19 Coré hijo de Imná, de la tribu de Leví, tenía a su cargo la vigilancia de la entrada este del templo, y era el responsable de cuidar las ofrendas que la gente daba voluntariamente a Dios. También se encargaba de repartirlas entre los sacerdotes y sus ayudantes.
Coré tenía seis ayudantes que, con toda honradez, repartían las ofrendas entre los sacerdotes y los ayudantes que vivían en las ciudades y campos de pastoreo del territorio de Judá. Los sacerdotes que recibían esa ayuda debían ser descendientes de Aarón, y los ayudantes debían estar en la lista oficial de ayudantes al servicio de Dios. Estos eran los seis ayudantes:
Edén,
Minjamín,
Jesús,
Semaías,
Amarías,
Secanías.
La repartición se hacía de la siguiente manera: en un libro estaban escritos los nombres de todos los sacerdotes y los ayudantes mayores de tres años. La lista de los sacerdotes seguía el orden de la familia a la que pertenecían, y la lista de los ayudantes tenía una sección con todos aquellos mayores de veinte años, según el turno y el trabajo que hacían. Como estos estaban totalmente dedicados a servir a Dios, en el libro también estaban registrados los nombres de todos sus familiares, es decir, de sus esposas, hijos e hijas.
Y así, todos los sacerdotes y levitas que iban al templo para cumplir con sus trabajos diarios, según el turno y trabajo que les tocaba hacer, recibían la parte que les correspondía.
20-21 Ezequías tuvo éxito en la organización del trabajo del templo, porque todo lo hizo con el único deseo de agradar a Dios, y porque siempre actuó de acuerdo con su ley. Por eso Dios consideró que todo lo que Ezequías hizo en el territorio de Judá, lo había hecho con sinceridad.
1 Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
2 ¶ And Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD. 3 He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit , for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD. 4 Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.
5 ¶ And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly. 6 And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps. 7 In the third month they began to lay the foundation of the heaps, and finished them in the seventh month. 8 And when Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD, and his people Israel. 9 Then Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps. 10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.
11 ¶ Then Hezekiah commanded to prepare chambers in the house of the LORD; and they prepared them , 12 And brought in the offerings and the tithes and the dedicated things faithfully: over which Cononiah the Levite was ruler, and Shimei his brother was the next. 13 And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the ruler of the house of God. 14 And Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, the porter toward the east, was over the freewill offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of the LORD, and the most holy things. 15 And next him were Eden, and Miniamin, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their set office, to give to their brethren by courses, as well to the great as to the small: 16 Beside their genealogy of males, from three years old and upward, even unto every one that entereth into the house of the LORD, his daily portion for their service in their charges according to their courses; 17 Both to the genealogy of the priests by the house of their fathers, and the Levites from twenty years old and upward, in their charges by their courses; 18 And to the genealogy of all their little ones, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation: for in their set office they sanctified themselves in holiness: 19 Also of the sons of Aaron the priests, which were in the fields of the suburbs of their cities, in every several city, the men that were expressed by name, to give portions to all the males among the priests, and to all that were reckoned by genealogies among the Levites.
20 ¶ And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God. 21 And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
