Las guerras y los pleitos
1 ¿Saben por qué hay guerras y pleitos entre ustedes? ¡Pues porque no saben dominar su egoísmo y su maldad! 2 Son tan envidiosos que quisieran tenerlo todo, y cuando no lo pueden conseguir, son capaces hasta de pelear, matar y promover la guerra. ¡Pero ni así pueden conseguir lo que quieren!
Ustedes no tienen, porque no se lo piden a Dios. 3 Y cuando piden, lo hacen mal, porque lo único que quieren es satisfacer sus malos deseos. 4 Ustedes no aman a Dios, ni lo obedecen. ¿Pero acaso no saben que hacerse amigo del mundo es volverse enemigo de Dios? ¡Pues así es! Si ustedes aman lo malo del mundo, se vuelven enemigos de Dios. 5 ¿Acaso no creen que, como dice la Biblia, «Dios nos ama mucho»? 6 En realidad, Dios nos trata con mucho más amor, como dice la Biblia:
«Dios se opone a los orgullosos,
pero brinda su ayuda a los humildes.»
7 Por eso, obedezcan a Dios. Háganle frente al diablo, y él huirá de ustedes. 8 Háganse amigos de Dios, y él se hará amigo de ustedes.
¡Pecadores, dejen de hacer el mal! Los que quieren amar a Dios, pero también quieren pecar, deben tomar una decisión: o Dios, o el mundo de pecado. 9 Pónganse tristes y lloren de dolor. Dejen de reír y pónganse a llorar, para que Dios vea su arrepentimiento. 10 Sean humildes delante del Señor, y él los premiará.
No critiquen a los demás
11 Hermanos, no hablen mal de los demás. El que habla mal del otro, o lo critica, es como si estuviera criticando a la ley de Dios, o hablando mal de ella. Lo que ustedes deben hacer es obedecer la ley de Dios, no criticarla. 12 Dios es el único juez. Él nos dio la ley, y es el único que puede decir si somos inocentes o culpables. Por eso no tenemos derecho de criticar a los demás.
No sean orgullosos
13 Escúchenme, ustedes, los que dicen: «Hoy o mañana iremos a la ciudad; allí nos quedaremos todo un año, y haremos buenos negocios y ganaremos mucho dinero.» 14 ¿Cómo pueden hablar así, cuando ni siquiera saben lo que les va a suceder mañana? Su vida es como la niebla: aparece por un poco de tiempo, y luego desaparece. 15 Más bien, deberían decir: «Si Dios quiere, viviremos y haremos esto o aquello.» 16 Sin embargo, a ustedes les gusta hablar con orgullo, como si fueran dueños del futuro, y eso es muy malo. 17 Si ustedes saben hacer lo bueno y no lo hacen, ya están pecando.
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. 11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. 17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
