Jesús y Pilato
(Mt 27.1-2Mt 11-14Lc 23.1-5Jn 18.28-38)1 Al amanecer, los sacerdotes principales, los líderes del país y los maestros de la Ley se reunieron con los miembros de la Junta Suprema. Terminada la reunión, ataron a Jesús, lo sacaron del palacio de Caifás y lo entregaron a Poncio Pilato, el gobernador romano.
2 Pilato le preguntó a Jesús:
—¿Eres en verdad el rey de los judíos?
Jesús respondió:
—Tú lo dices.
3 Los sacerdotes principales presentaban muchas acusaciones contra Jesús. 4 Por eso, Pilato volvió a preguntarle:
—Mira, te acusan de muchas cosas. ¿No vas a defenderte?
5 Y como Jesús no le respondía, el gobernador se quedó asombrado.
¡Que lo claven en una cruz!
(Mt 27.15-26Lc 23.13-25Jn 18.38—19.1)6 Durante la fiesta de la Pascua, Pilato tenía la costumbre de poner en libertad a alguno de los presos, el que el pueblo quisiera. 7 En ese tiempo estaba encarcelado un bandido muy famoso, que se llamaba Barrabás. Junto con otros había matado a alguien durante un gran pleito que se armó en contra del gobierno de Roma.
8 La gente fue a ver a Pilato y empezó a pedirle que dejara libre a un prisionero, como era su costumbre. 9-10 Y como Pilato sabía que los sacerdotes principales habían entregado a Jesús solo por envidia, le preguntó a la gente:
—¿Quieren que deje libre al rey de los judíos?
11 Pero los sacerdotes principales alborotaron a la gente para que pidiera la liberación de Barrabás.
12 Pilato volvió a preguntar:
—¿Y qué quieren que haga con el hombre que ustedes llaman “el rey de los judíos”?
13 —¡Clávalo en una cruz! —contestaron a coro.
14 Pilato les preguntó:
—Díganme, ¿qué mal ha hecho este hombre?
Pero la multitud gritó con más fuerza:
—¡Clávalo en una cruz!
15 Pilato quería quedar bien con la gente, así que dejó en libertad a Barrabás. Luego ordenó que azotaran a Jesús con un látigo y que lo clavaran en una cruz.
Todos se burlan de Jesús
(Mt 27.27-44Lc 23.26Lc 32-43Jn 19.2-24)16 Los soldados romanos llevaron a Jesús al patio del cuartel y llamaron al resto de la tropa. 17 Luego le pusieron a Jesús un manto de color rojo oscuro, y le colocaron en la cabeza una corona hecha con ramas de espinos. 18 Entonces comenzaron a burlarse de él, y gritaban: «¡Viva el rey de los judíos!»
19 Lo golpeaban en la cabeza con una vara y lo escupían, y arrodillándose delante de él le hacían reverencias. 20 Cuando se cansaron de burlarse de él, le quitaron el manto rojo y le pusieron su propia ropa. Después se lo llevaron para clavarlo en la cruz.
21 Los soldados salieron con Jesús, y en el camino encontraron a un hombre llamado Simón, que era del pueblo de Cirene. Simón era padre de Alejandro y de Rufo; regresaba del campo y los soldados lo obligaron a cargar la cruz de Jesús.
22 Así llevaron a Jesús a un lugar llamado Gólgota, que quiere decir «La Calavera». 23 Allí le ofrecieron vino mezclado con mirra, para calmar sus dolores; pero Jesús no quiso beberlo.
24-28 Eran las nueve de la mañana cuando los soldados romanos clavaron a Jesús en la cruz. Luego hicieron un sorteo para ver quién de ellos se quedaría con su ropa. Además, colocaron un letrero para explicar por qué lo habían clavado en la cruz. El letrero decía: «El Rey de los judíos».
Junto a Jesús clavaron a dos bandidos, uno a su derecha y el otro a su izquierda. 29 La gente que pasaba por allí insultaba a Jesús y se burlaba de él, haciéndole muecas y diciéndole: «¡Hey! Tú dijiste que podías destruir el templo y construirlo de nuevo en tres días. 30 ¡Si tienes tanto poder, sálvate a ti mismo! ¡Baja de la cruz!»
31 También los sacerdotes principales y los maestros de la Ley se burlaban de él, y se decían entre sí: «Salvó a otros, pero no puede salvarse a sí mismo. 32 Dice que es el Mesías, el rey de Israel. ¡Pues que baje de la cruz y creeremos en él!»
Y también insultaban a Jesús los bandidos que habían sido clavados a su lado.
Jesús muere
(Mt 27.45-56Lc 23.44-49Jn 19.28-30)33 Desde el mediodía hasta las tres de la tarde, el cielo se puso oscuro. 34 A esa hora, Jesús gritó con mucha fuerza: «Eloí, Eloí, ¿lemá sabactani?» Eso quiere decir: «¡Dios mío, Dios mío! ¿Por qué me has abandonado?»
35 Algunos de los que estaban allí lo oyeron, y dijeron: «Oigan, está llamando al profeta Elías.»
36 Uno de ellos consiguió una esponja, la empapó con vinagre, la ató al extremo de un palo largo, y se la acercó a Jesús para que bebiera. Entonces dijo: «Vamos a ver si Elías viene a bajarlo de la cruz.»
37 Jesús lanzó un fuerte grito y murió. 38 En aquel momento, la cortina del templo se partió en dos pedazos de arriba abajo.
39 El oficial romano que estaba frente a Jesús lo vio morir, y dijo:
—En verdad este hombre era el Hijo de Dios.
40 Había allí muchas mujeres que miraban desde lejos. Entre ellas estaban María Magdalena, Salomé y María, la madre de José y de Santiago el menor. 41 Ellas habían seguido y ayudado a Jesús en Galilea. Además, estaban allí muchas otras mujeres que habían acompañado a Jesús en su viaje a Jerusalén.
El entierro de Jesús
(Mt 27.57-61Lc 23.50-56Jn 19.38-42)42 Ya era viernes por la tarde, y los judíos se estaban preparando para las celebraciones especiales del día sábado. 43 Un hombre llamado José, del pueblo de Arimatea, no tuvo miedo de pedirle a Pilato el cuerpo de Jesús. José era un miembro muy importante de la Junta Suprema. Además, él oraba para que el reinado de Dios empezara pronto.
44 Pilato se sorprendió mucho al oír que Jesús ya había muerto. Por eso, llamó al oficial romano para ver si era cierto, y para averiguar cuándo había sucedido. 45 Cuando el oficial regresó con el informe, Pilato dio permiso para que le entregaran a José el cuerpo de Jesús.
46 José compró entonces una sábana de tela muy fina y cara. Bajó a Jesús de la cruz, lo envolvió en la sábana y lo puso en una tumba. Hacía poco tiempo que José la había mandado construir en una gran roca. Luego tapó la entrada de la tumba con una piedra muy grande. 47 Mientras tanto, María Magdalena y María la madre de José, miraban dónde ponían el cuerpo de Jesús.
1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate. 2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it . 3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing. 4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee. 5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled. 6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired. 7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. 8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. 9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? 10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy. 11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. 12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews? 13 And they cried out again, Crucify him. 14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15 ¶ And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him , to be crucified. 16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Prætorium; and they call together the whole band. 17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head , 18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! 19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him. 21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross. 22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. 23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. 24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. 25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. 26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. 28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors. 29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, 30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross. 31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save. 32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him. 33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it , said, Behold, he calleth Elias. 36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down. 37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.
39 ¶ And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. 40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; 41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42 ¶ And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. 44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. 45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
