Joacaz, rey de Judá
(2 R 23.31-34)1-2 El pueblo eligió a Joacaz para que reinara en lugar de Josías, su padre. Joacaz tenía veintitrés años cuando comenzó a gobernar. La capital de su reino fue Jerusalén, pero su reinado solo duró tres meses, 3-4 pues el rey de Egipto no le permitió gobernar, y se lo llevó prisionero. Este rey obligó a todo el país a pagar un impuesto de treinta y tres kilos de oro y tres mil trescientos kilos de plata. Luego nombró a Eliaquim como rey de Judá en Jerusalén, que era la capital. Eliaquim era hermano de Joacaz, pero el rey de Egipto le cambió el nombre, y le llamó Joacín.
Joacín, rey de Judá
(2 R 23.35—24.7)5 Joacín tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a gobernar sobre Judá. La capital de su reino fue Jerusalén, y su reinado duró once años.
Joacín no obedeció a Dios. 6 Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, peleó contra él, lo encadenó y se lo llevó prisionero a Babilonia. 7 También se llevó con él una parte de los utensilios del templo de Dios, y los puso en el templo de su dios en Babilonia.
8 La historia de Joacín narra su terrible comportamiento, y está escrita en el libro de la historia de los reyes de Israel y de Judá. Joaquín, su hijo, reinó en su lugar.
Joaquín, rey de Judá
(2 R 24.8-17)9 Joaquín tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a gobernar sobre Judá. La capital de su reino fue Jerusalén, y su reinado solo duró tres meses y diez días. Joaquín no obedeció a Dios.
10 En la primavera de ese año, el rey Nabucodonosor ordenó que llevaran a Joaquín preso a Babilonia. En su lugar, Nabucodonosor nombró como rey de Judá a Sedequías, que era hermano de Joaquín. También se llevaron a Babilonia los utensilios de más valor que había en el templo de Dios.
Sedequías, rey de Judá
11 Sedequías tenía veintiún años cuando comenzó a gobernar sobre Judá. La capital de su reino fue Jerusalén, y su reinado duró once años. 12 Sedequías no obedeció a Dios, ni le hizo caso al profeta Jeremías cuando este le dio mensajes de parte de Dios. 13 Fue muy orgulloso y terco; nunca quiso arrepentirse ni obedecer al Dios de Israel.
Sedequías fue tan rebelde que tampoco obedeció al rey Nabucodonosor ni cumplió con el juramento que le había hecho.
14 De la misma manera se comportaron los principales sacerdotes y el pueblo. Traicionaron a Dios en gran manera, pues siguieron las odiosas costumbres de los países que adoraban dioses falsos. También se comportaron de manera terrible en el templo de Dios, el cual había sido dedicado a su adoración.
15 A pesar de eso, Dios amó a su pueblo y a su templo, y les envió muchos mensajeros para llamarles la atención. 16 Pero la gente siempre se burlaba de los mensajeros de Dios y de los profetas, y no les hacían caso. Y así siguieron hasta que Dios ya no aguantó más y, muy enojado, decidió castigarlos.
Dios castiga a su pueblo
(2 R 25.8-21Jer 39.8-10Jer 52.12-30)17 Dios hizo que Nabucodonosor atacara Jerusalén y la derrotara. El rey Nabucodonosor mató a los jóvenes en el templo, y luego mató a muchos de los habitantes de Jerusalén, sin importar si eran hombres o mujeres, niños o ancianos.
18 Nabucodonosor se llevó a Babilonia todos los utensilios y tesoros del templo de Dios. También se apoderó de los tesoros del rey y de sus asistentes. 19 Luego derribó la muralla de Jerusalén, les prendió fuego al templo de Dios y a los palacios, y destruyó todos los objetos de valor.
20 Los israelitas que quedaron con vida fueron llevados presos a Babilonia, donde fueron esclavos del rey y de sus descendientes. Así permanecieron, hasta que el reino de Persia se convirtió en un país poderoso y conquistó Babilonia.
21 Así fue como se cumplió lo que Dios había anunciado por medio del profeta Jeremías. El territorio de Judá quedó abandonado setenta años, y solo así pudo disfrutar de paz.
El emperador Ciro permite el regreso a Jerusalén
(Esd 1.1-4)22-23 En el primer año del gobierno de Ciro, rey de Persia, este rey dio la siguiente orden a todos los habitantes de su reino:
«El Dios de los cielos, que es dueño de todo, me hizo rey de todas las naciones, y me encargó que le construya un templo en la ciudad de Jerusalén, que está en la región de Judá. Por tanto, todos los que sean de Judá y quieran reconstruir el templo, tienen mi permiso para ir a Jerusalén. ¡Y que Dios los ayude!»
Ciro, rey de PersiaCon esta orden se cumplió la promesa que Dios había hecho por medio del profeta Jeremías.
1 Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s stead in Jerusalem. 2 Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. 3 And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem, and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 4 And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and turned his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho took Jehoahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.
5 ¶ Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God. 6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon. 7 Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon. 8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.
9 ¶ Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD. 10 And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the LORD, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.
11 ¶ Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. 12 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD. 13 And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel.
14 ¶ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. 15 And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: 16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. 17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand. 18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon. 19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof. 20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: 21 To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
22 ¶ Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, 23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
