1 Jesús también les dijo:
—Les aseguro que algunos de los que están aquí no morirán hasta que vean llegar el reino de Dios con poder.
Jesús se transforma
(Mt 17.1-13Lc 9.28-36)2 Seis días después, Jesús llevó a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan hasta un cerro alto, para estar solos. Frente a ellos, Jesús se transformó: 3 su ropa se puso tan blanca y brillante, como jamás aquí en la tierra podría blanquearse. 4 Luego, los tres discípulos vieron aparecer al profeta Elías y a Moisés conversando con Jesús.
5 Entonces Pedro le dijo a Jesús: «Maestro, ¡qué bueno que estemos aquí! Vamos a hacer tres enramadas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra más para Elías.»
6 Los discípulos estaban muy asustados, y Pedro se puso a hablar sin pensar en lo que decía.
7 De pronto bajó una nube y se detuvo sobre ellos. Desde la nube se oyó una voz que decía: «Este es mi Hijo, yo lo amo mucho. Ustedes deben obedecerlo.»
8 Enseguida, miraron a su alrededor y ya no había nadie con ellos. Sólo estaba Jesús.
9 Mientras bajaban del cerro, Jesús les ordenó que no le contaran a nadie lo que habían visto hasta que él, el Hijo del hombre, resucitara. 10 Pedro, Santiago y Juan guardaron el secreto, pero se preguntaban qué significaba aquello de resucitar. 11 Entonces le preguntaron:
—¿Por qué dicen los maestros de la Ley que el profeta Elías va a venir antes que el Mesías?
12 Jesús les respondió:
—Eso es verdad. Elías viene primero a preparar todas las cosas. Aunque también es cierto que la Biblia dice que el Hijo del hombre debe sufrir mucho y ser despreciado. 13 Pero yo les aseguro que Elías ya vino, y muchos lo trataron muy mal. Así se anunciaba ya en la Biblia.
Jesús sana a un muchacho
(Mt 17.14-21Lc 9.37-43)14 Cuando llegaron a donde estaban los otros discípulos, vieron que había mucha gente a su alrededor, y que los maestros de la Ley estaban discutiendo con ellos.
15 Al ver a Jesús, la gente se puso muy contenta, pues no esperaba verlo. Todos corrieron a saludarlo.
16 Jesús les preguntó:
—¿Qué es lo que discuten entre ustedes?
17 Uno de los que estaban allí le dijo:
—Maestro, te traje a mi hijo, pues tiene un espíritu malo que no lo deja hablar. 18 Cuando el espíritu entra en mi hijo, él se cae al suelo y empieza a echar espuma por la boca. Sus dientes empiezan a rechinar y él se queda rígido. Les pedí a tus discípulos que expulsaran de mi hijo a ese espíritu malo, pero no han podido.
19 Jesús les dijo:
—¿Por qué no han aprendido a confiar en Dios? ¿Acaso no pueden hacer nada sin mí? ¿Cuándo van a aprender? ¡Tráiganme aquí al muchacho!
20 Enseguida se lo llevaron. Cuando el espíritu malo vio a Jesús, empezó a sacudir al muchacho con gran fuerza. El joven cayó al suelo y empezó a echar espuma por la boca.
21 Jesús le preguntó al padre:
—¿Desde cuándo le pasa esto?
El padre respondió:
—Desde que era pequeño. 22 Desde entonces, el espíritu malo siempre ha querido matarlo, y lo arroja al fuego o al agua. Por favor, haz algo para ayudarnos. ¡Ten compasión de nosotros!
23 Jesús le preguntó:
—¿Puedes confiar en Dios? Para el que confía en él, todo es posible.
24 Enseguida el padre gritó:
—Sí, confío en Dios. ¡Ayúdame a confiar más en él!
25 Cuando Jesús vio que se estaba juntando mucha gente a su alrededor, reprendió al espíritu malo y le dijo:
—Espíritu malvado, que impides hablar a este joven, ¡te ordeno que salgas y no vuelvas a entrar en él!
26 El espíritu malo gritó, haciendo que el muchacho sufriera otro ataque. Luego salió y lo dejó como muerto. Mucha gente decía: «¡Está muerto!» 27 Pero Jesús tomó al joven por la mano y lo ayudó a levantarse.
28 Más tarde, cuando Jesús regresó a casa, los discípulos lo llevaron aparte y le preguntaron:
—¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsar a ese espíritu?
29 Jesús les contestó:
—Esta clase de espíritu malo solo se puede expulsar por medio de la oración.
Jesús habla otra vez de su muerte
(Mt 17.22-23Lc 9.43-45)30 Jesús y sus discípulos se fueron de ese lugar, y viajaron por la región de Galilea. En su camino, Jesús no quiso que la gente supiera que él pasaba por allí, 31 pues quería dedicarse a enseñar a sus discípulos. Les decía: «Yo, el Hijo del hombre, seré entregado en manos de los que me han de matar, pero tres días después resucitaré.»
32 Los discípulos no entendían lo que Jesús les quería decir, pero tenían miedo de preguntarle.
¿Quién es el más importante?
(Mt 18.1-5Lc 9.46-48)33 Jesús y sus discípulos llegaron al pueblo de Cafarnaúm. Cuando ya estaban en la casa, él les preguntó: «¿De qué estaban hablando cuando venían por el camino?»
34 Los discípulos no contestaron nada, porque habían estado discutiendo cuál de ellos era el más importante.
35 Entonces Jesús se sentó, llamó a los doce discípulos y les dijo: «Si alguno de ustedes quiere ser el más importante, deberá ocupar el último lugar y ser el servidor de todos los demás.»
36 Luego llamó a un niño y lo puso frente a ellos. Lo tomó en sus brazos y les dijo: 37 «Si ustedes aceptan a un niño como este, me aceptan a mí. Y si me aceptan a mí, aceptan a Dios, que fue quien me envió.»
Los que están a favor de Jesús
(Mt 10.42Lc 9.49-50)38 Juan, uno de los doce discípulos, le dijo a Jesús:
—Maestro, vimos a alguien que usaba tu nombre para sacar demonios de las personas, pero nosotros le dijimos que no lo hiciera, porque él no es de nuestro grupo.
39 Pero Jesús dijo:
—No se lo prohíban, porque nadie podría maldecirme después de haber hecho un milagro usando mi nombre. 40 Quien no está contra nosotros, realmente está a nuestro favor.
41 »Les aseguro que Dios no se olvidará de premiar a quien les dé un vaso de agua solo porque ustedes son míos.
Las tentaciones
(Mt 18.6-9Lc 17.1-2)42 »Si alguien hace que uno de estos pequeños seguidores míos deje de confiar en mí, mejor le sería que le ataran al cuello una piedra enorme y lo tiraran al mar.
43-44 »Si lo que haces con tu mano te hace desobedecer a Dios, mejor córtatela. Es mejor quedarse para siempre sin una mano, que tener las dos manos y ser echado al infierno, donde el fuego nunca se apaga.
45-46 »Si lo que haces con tu pie te hace desobedecer a Dios, mejor córtatelo. Es mejor quedarse para siempre sin un pie, que tener los dos pies y ser echado al infierno.
47 »Si lo que ves con tu ojo te hace desobedecer a Dios, mejor sácatelo. Es mejor que entres al reino de Dios con un solo ojo, que tener los dos ojos y ser echado al infierno, 48 donde hay gusanos que nunca mueren, y donde el fuego nunca se apaga.
49 »Dios va a purificar a todos como cuando purificamos las cosas con la sal o con el fuego. 50 La sal es buena. Pero si deja de estar salada, ¿cómo podrán ustedes devolverle su sabor? Por eso, sean buenos como la sal: hagan el bien y vivan en paz con todos.
1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
2 ¶ And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. 3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. 5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. 7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. 9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. 10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
11 ¶ And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come? 12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. 13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
14 ¶ And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. 15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him. 16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them? 17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; 18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. 19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. 20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. 21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. 22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. 23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30 ¶ And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it . 31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. 32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
33 ¶ And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? 34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. 35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. 36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, 37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
38 ¶ And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40 For he that is not against us is on our part. 41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. 42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. 43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
