Ser como Jesucristo
1 Si Cristo les ha dado a ustedes poder para animar a los demás, y si el amor que ustedes tienen los lleva a consolar a otros, y si todos ustedes tienen el mismo Espíritu y son compasivos, 2 les pido que vivan en armonía y que se amen unos a otros. Así me harán muy feliz. Pónganse de acuerdo en lo que piensan, deseen las mismas cosas y 3 no hagan nada por orgullo o solo por pelear. Al contrario, hagan todo con humildad, y vean a los demás como mejores a ustedes mismos. 4 Nadie busque el bien solo para sí mismo, sino para todos. 5 Tengan la misma manera de pensar que tuvo Jesucristo:
6 Aunque Cristo siempre fue igual a Dios,
no insistió en esa igualdad.
7 Al contrario,
renunció a esa igualdad,
y se hizo igual a nosotros,
haciéndose esclavo de todos.
8 Como hombre, se humilló a sí mismo
y obedeció a Dios hasta la muerte:
¡murió clavado en una cruz!
9 Por eso Dios le otorgó
el más alto privilegio,
y le dio el más importante
de todos los nombres,
10 para que ante él se arrodillen
todos los que están en el cielo,
y los que están en la tierra,
y los que están debajo de la tierra;
11 para que todos reconozcan
que Jesucristo es el Señor
y den gloria a Dios el Padre.
Cómo vivir en este mundo
12 Queridos hermanos, cuando yo estaba con ustedes, siempre me obedecían. Ahora que estoy lejos, deben obedecerme más que nunca. Por eso, con respeto y devoción a Dios, dedíquense a entender lo que significa ser salvado por Dios. 13 Porque es Dios quien los motiva a hacer el bien, y quien los ayuda a practicarlo, y lo hace porque así lo quiere.
14 Hagan todo sin hablar mal de nadie y sin discutir por todo, 15 para que no pequen ni nadie pueda culparlos de nada. En este mundo lleno de gente malvada y pecadora, ustedes, como hijos de Dios, deben alejarse de la maldad y brillar por su buen comportamiento. 16 Nunca dejen de creer en el mensaje que da vida. Así, yo podré estar orgulloso de ustedes el día que Cristo vuelva, y sabré que mi trabajo y mis esfuerzos no fueron inútiles.
17 Ustedes confían en Dios y le sirven, y eso es como si le presentaran una ofrenda. Tal vez a mí me maten, y entonces mi muerte será parte de esa ofrenda a Dios. Si esto llega a suceder, seré muy feliz, y quiero compartir esa alegría con ustedes. 18 ¡Alégrense, pues, conmigo!
Timoteo
19 Espero que pronto el Señor me permita enviarles a Timoteo, y me alegrará mucho recibir noticias de ustedes. 20 Timoteo es el único que se preocupa por ustedes, y que los quiere tanto como yo. 21 Los demás solo se ocupan de sus propias cosas y no de lo que le agrada a Jesucristo. 22 Pero ustedes ya conocen la buena conducta de Timoteo, y saben que él me ha ayudado como si fuera mi hijo. Juntos hemos anunciado la buena noticia. 23 Espero enviarlo a ustedes, tan pronto sepa yo si quedaré o no en libertad, 24 aunque confío que pronto Dios también me dejará ir a verlos.
Epafrodito
25 Hace algún tiempo, ustedes enviaron al hermano Epafrodito para que me ayudara en lo que me hiciera falta. Él ha trabajado y luchado conmigo para defender el mensaje de la buena noticia. Ahora me parece conveniente que él vuelva a ustedes, 26 pues tiene muchos deseos de verlos de nuevo. Está preocupado porque ustedes se enteraron de su enfermedad. 27 Y la verdad es que estuvo tan grave, que casi se muere. Pero Dios fue bueno con él, y también conmigo, para que no me pusiera más triste de lo que estoy. 28 Por eso lo envío enseguida, para que ustedes se alegren al verlo y yo deje de estar triste. 29 Recíbanlo con alegría, como se lo merece un servidor del Señor Jesús. Muestren aprecio por quienes son como él, 30 pues por trabajar para Cristo casi se muere: arriesgó su propia vida por darme la ayuda que ustedes no podían darme personalmente.
1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; 16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. 17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.
19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s. 22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel. 23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me. 24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly. 25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. 26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. 27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: 30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
