1 1 (2) Son cada vez
más mentirosos y violentos.
Hacen pactos con Asiria,
y envían regalos a Egipto;
¡y hasta piensan que del desierto
les puede llegar ayuda!»
Habla el profeta
2 2 (3) Oseas le dijo al pueblo:
«Dios ha iniciado un juicio
contra el pueblo de Israel;
va a castigar su mala conducta.
3-4 3-4 (4-5) »Desde antes de nacer
Jacob, el antepasado de ustedes,
engañó a su hermano;
y cuando llegó a ser hombre
Dios se le apareció en Betel.
Allí Jacob luchó con un ángel,
¡y consiguió vencerlo!
Luego, con lágrimas en los ojos,
le pidió a Dios que lo perdonara,
y Dios lo perdonó.
5 5 (6) »¡Nuestro Dios
es el Dios todopoderoso!
6 6 (7) Por eso, israelitas,
pídanle a Dios que los perdone,
actúen con amor y con justicia,
y confíen siempre en su Dios».
Habla Dios
7-8 7-8 (8-9) Dios le dijo al pueblo:
«Israelitas,
ustedes son como los comerciantes
que engañan a sus clientes:
¡les gusta usar pesas falsas!
Se creen muy ricos
y que tienen grandes riquezas;
piensan que nadie puede probar
que todo se lo han robado.
9 9 (10) »Pero yo soy su Dios
desde que estaban en Egipto,
y los haré vivir de nuevo en carpas,
como cuando andaban en el desierto.
10 10 (11) Yo les he hablado muchas veces
por medio de mis profetas.
11 11 (12) »¡Los israelitas que viven en Galaad,
son gente malvada!
Van a Guilgal, y allí matan toros
para ofrecerlos a sus dioses;
¡pero yo los destruiré por completo!
¡Sus altares quedarán en ruinas!
¡Quedarán esparcidos por el campo!»
Habla el profeta
12 12 (13) Oseas dijo:
«Jacob, antepasado de ustedes,
huyó al país de los arameos
y allí, para conseguir esposa,
trabajó como pastor de ovejas.
13 13 (14) Por medio de un profeta,
Dios cuidó de los israelitas
y los sacó de Egipto.
14 14 (15) Pero ahora los israelitas
han hecho enojar a Dios,
por eso los castigará.
¡Les hará pagar sus crímenes
y toda la maldad que han cometido!
1 Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt. 2 The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
3 ¶ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God: 4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us; 5 Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial. 6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
7 ¶ He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress. 8 And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin. 9 And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast. 10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets. 11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields. 12 And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep . 13 And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved. 14 Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
