1 Nosotros trabajamos para Dios. Por eso les rogamos que no menosprecien el amor que Dios les ha demostrado. 2 Dios dice en la Biblia:
«Cuando llegó el momento
de mostrarles mi bondad,
fui bondadoso con ustedes;
cuando necesitaron salvación,
yo les di libertad.»
¡Escuchen! Ese momento oportuno ha llegado. ¡Hoy es el día en que Dios puede salvarlos!
Pablo sufre por servir a Dios
3 No queremos que nadie critique nuestro trabajo. Por eso tratamos de no dar mal ejemplo. 4 En todo lo que hacemos, demostramos que somos servidores de Dios, y todo lo soportamos con paciencia. Hemos sufrido y tenido muchos problemas y necesidades. Nos han dado latigazos. 5 Nos han puesto en la cárcel, y en medio de gran alboroto nos han maltratado. Hemos trabajado mucho. Algunas veces no hemos dormido ni comido. 6 A pesar de todo eso, nuestra conducta ha sido impecable. Conocemos la verdad, somos pacientes y amables, el Espíritu Santo está en nuestras vidas, y amamos de verdad. 7 Con el poder que Dios nos da, anunciamos el mensaje verdadero. Cuando tenemos dificultades, las enfrentamos, y nos defendemos haciendo y diciendo siempre lo que es correcto.
8 A veces nos respetan y nos tratan bien, pero otras veces nos desprecian y nos maltratan. Unas veces hablan bien de nosotros, y otras veces mal. Aunque decimos la verdad, nos llaman mentirosos. 9 Aunque nos conocen muy bien, nos tratan como a desconocidos. Siempre estamos en peligro de muerte, pero todavía estamos vivos. Nos castigan, pero no nos matan. 10 Parece que estamos tristes, pero en realidad estamos contentos. Parece que somos pobres, pero a muchos los hacemos ricos. Parece que no tenemos nada, pero lo tenemos todo.
11 Queridos hermanos de la iglesia de Corinto, les hemos hablado con toda sinceridad, y con el corazón abierto. 12 Nosotros los amamos mucho, pero ustedes no nos corresponden con el mismo amor. 13 Amor con amor se paga. Por eso, como si fuera su padre, les suplico: ¡Ámenme como los amo yo!
La unión desigual
14 No participen en nada de lo que hacen los que no son seguidores de Cristo. Lo bueno no tiene nada que ver con lo malo. Tampoco pueden estar juntas la luz y la oscuridad. 15 Ni puede haber amistad entre Cristo y el diablo. El que es seguidor de Cristo no llama hermano al que no lo es. 16 Nosotros somos el templo del Dios vivo. Si Dios está en nosotros, no tenemos nada que ver con los ídolos. Dios mismo dijo:
«Viviré con este pueblo,
y caminaré con ellos.
»Yo seré su Dios
y ellos serán mi pueblo.»
17 Por eso, el Señor también dice:
«Apártense de ellos.
No toquen nada impuro,
y yo los aceptaré.
18 »Yo seré para ustedes
como un padre,
y ustedes serán para mí
como mis hijos y mis hijas.
»Esto lo afirmo yo,
el Dios todopoderoso.»
1 We then, as workers together with him , beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. 2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) 3 Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: 4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, 5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; 6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, 7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; 9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; 10 As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
11 O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. 12 Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. 13 Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged. 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing ; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
