1 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink. 2 The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks. 3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.
4 ¶ Come to Beth-el, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years: 5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
6 ¶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. 7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered. 8 So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. 9 I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. 10 I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. 11 I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD. 12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. 13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.
Las mujeres ricas de Samaria
1 Y ustedes, mujeres de Samaria,
escuchen lo que tengo que decirles:
Ustedes están gordas
como vacas de la región de Basán,
pues maltratan y humillan a los pobres,
y a sus propios maridos
les piden vino para emborracharse.
2 Pero el poderoso Dios de Israel
les jura que ya está cerca el día
en que a ustedes y a sus hijos
se los llevarán lejos de aquí.
Tanto a ellos como a ustedes
les pondrán ganchos en la boca,
3 y a ustedes las sacarán
por los huecos de las murallas,
una detrás de la otra,
para llevarlas al matadero.
Israel no se arrepiente
Nuestro Dios les dice:
4-5 «¡Ya que a ustedes
les gusta tanto pecar,
sigan adorando a sus ídolos
en el santuario de Betel
y en el santuario de Guilgal!
No me importa lo que hagan.
Yo, el Dios de Israel,
les juro que así es.
»¡Sigan pecando más y más!
Sigan presentando sus ofrendas
todas las mañanas,
y lleven cada tercer día
la décima parte de sus cosechas;
presenten toda clase de ofrendas,
y anuncien sus ofrendas voluntarias.
6 »Cuando les hice pasar hambre,
¡en ninguna ciudad había de comer!
Pero a pesar de eso,
ustedes no se arrepintieron.
Yo, el Dios de Israel,
les juro que así fue.
7 »Tres meses antes de la cosecha
decidí no enviarles lluvia;
mientras que en una ciudad llovía,
en otra no caía ni gota de agua;
unos campos quedaron empapados,
mientras que otros quedaron resecos.
8 Los que no tenían agua
iban a las ciudades que sí tenían,
aunque no lograban calmar su sed.
Pero a pesar de eso,
ustedes no se arrepintieron.
Yo, el Dios de Israel,
les juro que así fue.
9 »Yo destruí sus cosechas
y acabé con sus árboles frutales;
yo envié sobre sus campos
grandes plagas de saltamontes
y calientes vientos del desierto;
pero a pesar de eso,
ustedes no se arrepintieron.
Yo, el Dios de Israel,
les juro que así fue.
10 »Mandé plagas contra ustedes,
como las que mandé contra Egipto;
hice que perdieran en la guerra
sus caballos y sus mejores soldados;
¡el mal olor de los muertos
se sentía por todas partes!
Pero a pesar de eso,
ustedes no se arrepintieron.
Yo, el Dios de Israel,
les juro que así fue.
11 »A muchos de ustedes los destruí
como destruí a las ciudades
de Sodoma y de Gomorra;
¡hasta parecían una brasa
recién sacada del fuego!
Pero a pesar de eso,
ustedes no se arrepintieron.
Yo, el Dios de Israel,
les juro que así fue.
12 »Por todo eso, pueblo de Israel,
ahora voy a castigarlos;
y como no podrán evitarlo,
¡prepárense para encontrarse conmigo!
13 »Yo soy quien hizo
el viento y las montañas;
yo soy quien convierte
la luz del día en oscuridad;
yo soy quien comunica
sus planes a la humanidad entera;
yo soy el que camina
por las alturas de la tierra;
¡yo soy el poderoso Dios de Israel!»
