1 And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David. 2 But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place , and hide thyself: 3 And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art , and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.
4 ¶ And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good: 5 For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it , and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause? 6 And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain. 7 And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.
8 ¶ And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him. 9 And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand. 10 And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.
11 Saul also sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David’s wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.
12 ¶ So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped. 13 And Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats’ hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth. 14 And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick. 15 And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him. 16 And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats’ hair for his bolster. 17 And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?
18 ¶ So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth. 19 And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah. 20 And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21 And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. 22 Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah. 23 And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah. 24 And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
Saúl trata de matar a David
1 Saúl le ordenó a su hijo Jonatán y a sus ayudantes que mataran a David. Pero como Jonatán lo quería mucho, 2 le avisó del peligro que corría:
«¡Cuídate mucho, que mi padre quiere matarte! ¡Escóndete en el campo! Mañana temprano 3 yo iré con mi padre cerca del lugar donde estés escondido. Allí le pediré que no te haga daño, y te haré saber lo que me responda».
4 Al día siguiente, Jonatán habló con Saúl en favor de David. Le dijo:
—Padre, no debes hacerle ningún daño a David, pues él tampoco te ha hecho ningún mal. Por el contrario, te ha servido y solo ha buscado tu bien. Pórtate como el rey que eres. 5 Recuerda que David arriesgó su vida cuando peleó contra Goliat y lo mató. Ese día Dios nos ayudó a vencer a los filisteos, y tú mismo estabas muy contento. ¿Cómo es posible que ahora quieras matar a David, si no ha hecho nada malo?
6 Cuando Saúl escuchó esto, le dijo a Jonatán:
—Te juro por Dios que no le haré ningún daño a David.
7 Entonces Jonatán llamó a David y le contó lo que había hablado con Saúl. Luego llevó a David con el rey Saúl, y David volvió a servir al rey.
8 Tiempo después hubo otra batalla contra los filisteos, y David salió a pelear contra ellos. Y de tal manera venció David a los filisteos que salieron corriendo de miedo.
9 Un día, Saúl estaba sentado en su casa, escuchando a David tocar el arpa. De pronto, un espíritu malo de parte de Dios atacó a Saúl, y como Saúl tenía una lanza en la mano, 10 se la arrojó a David con ganas de clavarlo en la pared. Sin embargo, David logró quitarse a tiempo.
Esa misma noche Saúl intentó de nuevo matar a David, pero David se le volvió a escapar. 11 Entonces Saúl ordenó a algunos de sus hombres que rodearan la casa de David y lo mataran por la mañana. Pero Mical, su esposa, le dijo: «David, huye ahora mismo; de lo contrario, mañana estarás muerto».
12-13 De inmediato, Mical tomó una estatuilla, le puso pelo de cabra en la cabeza y la cubrió con una capa; luego la colocó donde David dormía, y sacó a David por una ventana. Así fue como David pudo escapar.
14 Cuando los hombres de Saúl llegaron para apresar a David, Mical les dijo: «David está enfermo».
15 Aquellos hombres se regresaron y fueron a decírselo al rey Saúl. Pero él los envió de vuelta y les dijo: «Tráiganme a David, aunque sea en su cama, porque hoy mismo lo voy a matar».
16 Los hombres de Saúl volvieron a la casa de David, pero no encontraron en la cama más que la estatuilla con pelo de cabra en la cabeza. 17 Cuando Saúl se enteró de esto, le reclamó a Mical:
—¿Por qué me engañaste? ¿Por qué ayudaste a escapar a mi enemigo?
Y Mical le contestó:
—David me amenazó. Me dijo que si no lo ayudaba a escapar, me mataría.
Saúl persigue a David
18-19 Mientras tanto, David logró escapar. Cuando llegó a la ciudad de Ramá, le contó a Samuel todo lo que Saúl le había hecho. Entonces los dos se fueron a un pueblo llamado Naiot, que estaba cerca de la ciudad de Ramá, y allí se quedaron a vivir. Pero tan pronto como Saúl lo supo, 20 envió a un grupo de sus hombres para apresar a David.
Cuando los hombres de Saúl llegaron a ese lugar, se encontraron con que Samuel y un grupo de profetas estaban dando mensajes de parte de Dios. Entonces el espíritu de Dios tomó control de los enviados de Saúl, y también ellos empezaron a profetizar.
21 Saúl se enteró de lo que había pasado, así que envió a otro grupo de sus hombres, y también a ellos les pasó lo mismo.
Saúl envió un tercer grupo, y también ellos se pusieron a profetizar.
22 Finalmente, Saúl mismo fue a Ramá. Cuando llegó al gran pozo que está en Secú, preguntó:
—¿Dónde están Samuel y David?
—En Naiot, cerca de Ramá —le contestaron.
23 Saúl se puso en camino hacia Naiot. Pero el espíritu de Dios vino sobre él, y en todo el camino a Naiot iba profetizando. 24 Cuando llegó a donde estaba Samuel, se quitó toda la ropa, y todo el día y toda la noche se los pasó dando mensajes de parte de Dios. De allí viene el refrán que dice: «¡Hasta Saúl es profeta!»
